    Staff Update - July 1, 2013:
This thread is not from 2013. This thread is about the 2011, BETA version of Minecraft 1.6. There is no ETA for the 2013 Minecraft 1.6 update, as always. Please do not ask staff about when an update will happen, as they have no estimate for you. Again, this thread is not relevant to today's update.

    Update 2 - June 23, 2011 at 9:12PM EST:
    New Recommended Build #928.

This Recommended Build addresses a few API issues and provides Plugin Developers with more events to work with, allowing more awesome plugins to be made. Unfortunately, this new RB WILL break some plugins (mostly plugins that deal with controlling a player's movement - details can be found near the end of this announcement). As always, please be sure to backup your server before updating just in case!

See this post for more information.

    Update - May 30th, 2011 at 5:55PM EST:
Since the release of Minecraft 1.6, we've seen quite a few rapid-fire bugfix updates from Mojang addressing issues the community has noticed and reported back on. While we're glad Mojang are on top of things and getting updates out there quickly to improve the community's experience, this does result in extra work on our part since we have to re-do some of the work we've completed for the previous update. As a result, I made the decision to hold off on getting a build out for Minecraft 1.6 until we were able to evaluate the update and decide if that is what we feel we should do or not.

Over the weekend, that is what we have been busy doing. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to handle the situation as much as I would have liked, leading to a lack of communication on our part with you guys, our community. Nevertheless, my team was happily and diligently working on the update and in regular contact with me. Still, I would like to apologise for our lack of communication, I simply was not in a position to do so.

That being said, we have noticed a few issues with the update that we've been able to address, so we are leaning towards bringing out a build for Minecraft 1.6.5. Though this build may not address all the issues we've found, it is still usable and produces a playable server with a decent experience. However, I am not yet sure if this build will qualify for recommendation.

Please bear this in mind when using the build: it is not fully supported (though we welcome detailed, useful bug reports) and not recommended (we can't guarantee stability) to use. There are some Minecraft vanilla issues that Mojang need to address that are beyond the scope of our project to fix and we are still touching things up (like Nether/multiworld support).

If you want to use the build we'll be pushing soon, please backup your server and make sure you understand the risks before doing so. Once again, we cannot guarantee that it won't eat your cake or spawn tiny creeper babies that take over your world.

As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang released Minecraft 1.6 today (Thursday, May 26, 2011) around 5AM EST and we've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with Minecraft 1.6 out. Since the release, Minecraft has seen quite a few small bugfix updates addressing some unnoticed bugs and we've pretty easily kept up with them. Unfortunately, there appear to be some issues with the update that is making the game unplayable for SMP players, so we've decided to wait for a bugfix update before we recommend any builds.

Will there be a CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6?
Given the reports of showstopping bugs present in 1.6, there's a high chance a new bugfix update for Minecraft will be out tomorrow or even several times this week. As a result, it is unlikely we will be releasing a Recommended Build for 1.6 until we have something stable to work with.

That being said, we recommend everyone stay on 1.5 for a while until the showstopping issues are fixed and we can get a new, stable, compatible build out.

You can already get CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6.4, but it is unsupported and not recommended.

I'll be scouring the internet for further reports on how Minecraft 1.6 is performing, but preliminary research and our own testing has revealed it as unplayable due to chunks sporadically loading or not loading.

well, Imma backup, and run a new map for awhile as soon as CB reach stable/recommended version. And then, wait until 27bunch of plugins that I use working for CB MC1.6. For now, let's enjoy singleplayer 1.6 and some Portal 2 :3

Always backup your jars. It's a good practice. I backed up mine when I learned that 1.6 was here.

If you read the first post, the notice in at the top of every page on the site, the documentation, and all the posts by other users:

Impossible. The block types are all stored in the client. If the client isn't modded it won't know any non-0fficial blocks. Servers cannot load code, sounds, textures, skinds, GUIs, or anything at all to a client except chunks, player/mob movement, and chat messages.

Otherwise, believe me, we'd have done all that stuff already.

What is the average time that you think 1.6.4 will be released?

here's what i'm experiencing at the moment. None of my portals lead to the nether as that is something I held off on adding due to official support. When i step into my "portals" (pools of water, portal-less nethergates, etc.) ,which are meant to transport me between worlds, I get teleported to certain coordinates on the same map.

Also i've noticed that plugins like MultiInv believe that the inventory saved to my Creative world is what I own in my Survival world. (although this really isn't a huge deal. Just gotta give my stuff back)

And as 1 commenter stated above I would gladly submit my bug reports to some sort of thread dedicated to this.

If you have a bin file from before you updated you can switch the bin in the .minecraft with the pre-update one. Then when it loads up just hit "not now" when given chance to update and everything should work.

1.6 will never be stable the way I look at it.
Not only is there 20+ new bugs, but with every bug fix... 10 more new bugs pop out and the fix they made actually doesn't work.
    That's beyond counter productive.

It all depends on how those plugins do the teleportation. Unfortunately, I have no idea how they do it, although I'd have to guess it's like how I do it. Nethrar works, as long as you're going from $WORLDNAME to $WORLDNAME + "_nether", and I have no idea why it doesn't work for arbitrary world names.

To be honest, it isn't the number of issues added that need patching that irritate me the most (though, considering notch's twitter suggest he had people on IRC test over night I'm surprised so much got through. Mojang really need some kind of Release Candidate system to prerelease a day or two before pushing to the clients, so that things like this can be caught). What really irritates me is that they released on a day when they had a prebooked live interview late afternoon. It would make sense to ensure that in a worst case scenario, with show stopping bugs (which we nearly have), that they could pull a few extra hours to try to get everything sorted. It just seems like terrible planning on Notch and the rest of Mojang's part that they don't have systems in place to prevent such issues.

See I NEVER update unless I've backed up the old version so that if/when it goes wrong I can go back... also that way I can leave my server running 1.5 (in this situation) and play with 1.6.godknowswhatnow for a bit, then go back to the server!
My players are all fairly intelligent (apart from the lava/wool house thing) so they've all stuck with 1.5 as well. We're eagerly awaiting the next build of Bukkit, well done for the fantastic (and fast!) work you've done so far, hopefully Notch isn't going to have too many more two point versions for you to work at.

    No you don't.
  16. You could if the client had a single server-mod-loader mod.

    Arbitrary remote code execution ftw.

Can't notch test it out at home/ get a beta group?
  19. Offline

To all you people who keep whining about about the bugs and lack of testing before Notch's patch releases, let me remind you one important thing:
You're playing the freakin' Beta. You do know what a Beta phase in software development is, don't you?
There isn't a lot of testing before the updates because we're the testers. That's what we're doing whenever we play the game! That's the whole point of it being in Beta! You can't whine about the massive amount of bugs or the lack of testing before updates because you've purposely bought and are playing a Beta. If you think it's stupid or whatever, then wait the 160+ days for the final release, which you've already paid for.
Don't whine about the crap, though, it's like deciding to play out in the rain and constantly declaring how wet everything is. Either way for it to be sunny or stop stating the obvious, you only look dumb for it.
At least be glad Notch and his tiny company are nothing like the big ones out there who don't really give a crap about the bugs when they want your money, they'll release a game with thousands of bugs and maybe fix some of them through a few later patches, but only after they've got your money. Notch isn't even doing it as he's going along, Minecraft is still a Beta, a work in progress, you don't usually let people play these so publicly until the official release, so of course it's going to be buggy for another half year or so. And before anyone tries to bring up "But I paid money for this!", no, you paid money for the game as it is {Updates aren't forced} and the final release, so that nulls any such point as that.

Stop whining about bugs and untested patches, be glad you get this much. Playing Minecraft before it's official final release means you're gladly accepting these. That means you've given up any right to whine and moan about it.
You're being very ungrateful to such a gracious developer.

Server is mostly working aside from some MultiInv errors which might have been fixed by now, or i need a replacement plugin.

    Haven't tested nether yet

also multiverse works really well now aside from the fact that the minecraft client HATES if i jump to quickly between worlds and it decides to boot me
  21. You guys guys need to read the ip screen again I think, Here:

Minecraft Multiplayer is currently not finished. Bu there is some buggy early testing going on.

Any progress in minecraft dev is good. If you think otherwise, go play classic mode.

The game is fine, its got some setbacks as it was just released, nothing is perfect right away, as for me, i've had bukkit up since it was released on ci.bukkit.org. And its been no cakewalk for you guys im sure, but things aren't running horribly, just gotta pay attention to what's going on. Of course, for players that rent servers, this makes things a bit more difficult.

ci.bukkit.org - The builds there work just fine, as for the new items being given and whatnot, will just have to be done through vanilla, but yeah. most plugins are fine, with a few malfunctioning commands. Like usual.

Time is of the essence, but there's no reason that people shouldn't go ahead and trudge through it. Its not as bad as 1.5 chunk loading, that was disgusting.

If you'd like to see for yourself, you can come check on my server.

Tested 814 and it's kinda working. Map makes server crash depending of the warp/Teleport and nether world created with NetherPortal makes the server crash if someone get's in it.
