    Staff Update - July 1, 2013:
This thread is not from 2013. This thread is about the 2011, BETA version of Minecraft 1.6. There is no ETA for the 2013 Minecraft 1.6 update, as always. Please do not ask staff about when an update will happen, as they have no estimate for you. Again, this thread is not relevant to today's update.

    Update 2 - June 23, 2011 at 9:12PM EST:
    New Recommended Build #928.

This Recommended Build addresses a few API issues and provides Plugin Developers with more events to work with, allowing more awesome plugins to be made. Unfortunately, this new RB WILL break some plugins (mostly plugins that deal with controlling a player's movement - details can be found near the end of this announcement). As always, please be sure to backup your server before updating just in case!

See this post for more information.

    Update - May 30th, 2011 at 5:55PM EST:
Since the release of Minecraft 1.6, we've seen quite a few rapid-fire bugfix updates from Mojang addressing issues the community has noticed and reported back on. While we're glad Mojang are on top of things and getting updates out there quickly to improve the community's experience, this does result in extra work on our part since we have to re-do some of the work we've completed for the previous update. As a result, I made the decision to hold off on getting a build out for Minecraft 1.6 until we were able to evaluate the update and decide if that is what we feel we should do or not.

Over the weekend, that is what we have been busy doing. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to handle the situation as much as I would have liked, leading to a lack of communication on our part with you guys, our community. Nevertheless, my team was happily and diligently working on the update and in regular contact with me. Still, I would like to apologise for our lack of communication, I simply was not in a position to do so.

That being said, we have noticed a few issues with the update that we've been able to address, so we are leaning towards bringing out a build for Minecraft 1.6.5. Though this build may not address all the issues we've found, it is still usable and produces a playable server with a decent experience. However, I am not yet sure if this build will qualify for recommendation.

Please bear this in mind when using the build: it is not fully supported (though we welcome detailed, useful bug reports) and not recommended (we can't guarantee stability) to use. There are some Minecraft vanilla issues that Mojang need to address that are beyond the scope of our project to fix and we are still touching things up (like Nether/multiworld support).

If you want to use the build we'll be pushing soon, please backup your server and make sure you understand the risks before doing so. Once again, we cannot guarantee that it won't eat your cake or spawn tiny creeper babies that take over your world.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang released Minecraft 1.6 today (Thursday, May 26, 2011) around 5AM EST and we've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with Minecraft 1.6 out. Since the release, Minecraft has seen quite a few small bugfix updates addressing some unnoticed bugs and we've pretty easily kept up with them. Unfortunately, there appear to be some issues with the update that is making the game unplayable for SMP players, so we've decided to wait for a bugfix update before we recommend any builds.

Will there be a CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6?
Given the reports of showstopping bugs present in 1.6, there's a high chance a new bugfix update for Minecraft will be out tomorrow or even several times this week. As a result, it is unlikely we will be releasing a Recommended Build for 1.6 until we have something stable to work with.

That being said, we recommend everyone stay on 1.5 for a while until the showstopping issues are fixed and we can get a new, stable, compatible build out.

You can already get CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6.4, but it is unsupported and not recommended.

I'll be scouring the internet for further reports on how Minecraft 1.6 is performing, but preliminary research and our own testing has revealed it as unplayable due to chunks sporadically loading or not loading.

Man what is there to say about Notch anymore that hasn't already been said a million times before.
The guy takes vacations between his vacations because they are too close together... I'm not joking: http://i.min.us/imJTdK.png

It's just sad, and here we all are paying for his complete lack of common sense since he never tests ANY build before releasing, thus pretty consistently causing these issues we all get with people updating and complaining an so forth. Thank you for putting up with that, Bukkit Team, and not getting completely fed up. I can only imagine how frustrating it is when you get those few who start blaming YOU for the mistakes, restrictions and bugs Notch creates!

I can't even imagine how amazing Minecraft would be if the Bukkit team took control away from Notch and got their hands dirty themselves... if only the law allowed the players to decide, eh?

You realize you can downgrade your client right? Google it (or rather, your players should have...) I would never update the server in it's current state with everything that i'm hearing and seeing on my test server... what a mess it is :X

This is the problem. We used a copy of our Bukkit map on a vanilla server and the error still happens. Delete the player's .dat file and they should be free from this bug. They WILL lose their inventory.

There is another bug which crashes clients it is unrelated to this one; it won't halt your server and the affected players can simply reconnect.

That he's insanely successful, creating one of the most fun games ever while at the same time getting rich?

Do note: Nobody stopped you from doing it instead :) It's a lot easier to whine though.

I'm not sure what the problem is but if any of your players create or use maps this will hang your server hard after just a few minutes.

Ah, come on. Notch was the one who came up with Minecraft. There wouldn't even be something like the bukkit team without him.
And I'm saying it again: Minecraft IS BETA. And therefore its pretty much freaking awesome. But we are the testers and we cannot except something bug- free. Bukkit is a project build on a buggy beta of a game and they are doing all the work without any help of Notch at all! So just stop blaming Notch or the Bukkit Team.

Hmm, I have a question. Lets say it could be something to do with maps. Would it be possible to block players from using maps using a plugin or anything. This is the main server issue at the moment after testing, if we could fix this and reset player.dat files it might just work

i know i can downgrade my client. its my players on the server who don't know that. and unfortunately none of them read any messages i send them on the forums so they never do it...huh its ok though. doesnt bother me that they ignore everything i say. just gets a bit annoying when they start to complain to you about why isnt the server updated and they still didn't read the messages i sent..

Said like a true new admin, come say the same thing in 4 months if nothing has changed. (Also I have no interest in developing a game of any sort... I am simply a patron.)

I was Notch's #1 fan (just like everyone else was at one point) but after 7 or 8 months of this, i'm just tired of him making rookie mistakes when he can afford the time and money required to do things correctly, thus giving back to the community (rather than what he's doing currently, which is to give back to himself... as if being 30 and all the sudden successful means he can account for those 10 back-logged unsuccessful years by taking endless vacations) As we all know, successful people always take a lot of vacations after their FIRST big break. (Please note the sarcasm there...)

Either way, to not stray too far from the point here... the Bukkit team and the hard working plugin developers are the TRUE backbone of Minecraft. Take that away and i'd stop playing immediately (along with most others, quite frankly.) Cheers to them! They don't get millions of dollars, in fact they hardly get tens of dollars a month for their work... but they keep helping this community. Tip your hat to them first, and Notch last - that's the least any of us can do.

P.S. I should add that my irritation with Notch is more deep set than most... I lost 125 dollars for many months before I finally had to have my bank hunt Mojang down and get my money back (which they did, thank you Wells Fargo.) Either way he had no customer service until a month ago so I was one of the many who literally payed for his negligence. This thread is evidence as well to all the rest who are going through needless toil on account of this fair-weather game developer. Case in point, and tl;dr: Notch doesn't give a crap about you or any of us. To *not* whine is to show him that his community is not upset, and to show that is to say "Good Job, keep doing EXACTLY what you're doing." Enjoy the future untested versions of the game if you're willing to accept that.

    The thing I dont understand.

Why doesnt he ask for people with experience in testing experimental software.
He could give them a alpha build of the beta before the beta is out.

This could also be sent to bukkit devs and modders so they have something to look at in regards to what the next update would be.

The alpha testers could report game breaking bugs like chunks and CPU usage. Once this is reported, notch can fix them. The testers retest the alpha build. When they feel its stable, its released in beta.
I know it would take notch hard work, but it would be a system so amazing.

I agree. I bet theres alot of people willing to test the newest versions before release. Maybe give them a discounted price or free copy of Minecraft.

I also agree that it would be nice if Craftbukkit would be allowed to work side by side with Notch.

People would start to moan about updates taking too long.
I think that Notch will start this strategy after the official release (which is in November i think).

I would do it for free, as would many people. The only thing is IT WOULD have to be limited amount of players, or it would be no different. It would also have to be separate from your previous beta minecraft.jar, as to not interfere with the real world.

And Craftbukkit devs, if you ever read this, please, get in contact with notch and ask him "Could we see the beta builds before they're done". If it would help you get the releases out faster and be of use to you, its seriously worth a try.

And efstajas, sure it would take longer, but it would be quicker in the long run. Think about it, no updates breaking mods every few days, and more importantly it would allow bukkit devs to get things out faster.
If notch was there WHILST they tested, it would take maybe 1 or 2 days longer. I am sure most of the MC community would agree this is a worthy wait if it means we have a working minecraft, working mods and working bukkit.

Going from having to work with obfuscated code into the real code (which is the plan from Mojang) will accomplish pretty much the same thing.

I think what he is trying to say is that if CraftBukkit would be allowed to discuss development with Notch and work with them in terms of seeing what happens before its released, it would be a better experience for us all.

You guys do know that next week they're updating Minecraft so it's going to be 1.6.6? And then Notch is going to update Minecraft to 1.7, which includes Adventure Mode. So if they don't get 1.6's Bukkit out, they should just work on 1.7.

I am strongly disagreeing. Notch has said this is going to be a big update that could take months, not unlike what happened before, due to his vacations and him going to E3. Personally I would move to canary if I had to wait a month without a stable server on the latest mc, as many users would I am sure.

People would start complaining about long development times due to the testing period. Adding a testing period means you have to first develop a testing platform that only specific users may use, which MC doesn't have. All it is now is "Do you have the latest patch? No? Update". Next, you'd have to setup a robust bug reporting solution that people would actually use, which MC doesn't have. Notch would also need to setup a forum for other testers to communicate, which yet again, MC doesn't have. Time adds up really quickly when you factor in every step.

Notch is using agile development, which means his development cycle can be put into one little phrase: "Release updates quickly and often." It sucks for mod developers because Notch failed to implement a mod dev API, but it is great for vanilla MC players because they get new content quickly. I'd rather just see him continue doing the process he is now, and hopefully making a more robust system after MC is out of beta.

Thanks for telling us whats happening. However 1.6.6 is coming out tomorrow if notch is anything to go by, are you sure 1.6.5 is the best option?

It sounds like they have been working on the build already. It would suck to work all that time and not be able to show off your work. It will also shut up all the people crying on the forum over no 1.6.5 compatible build , Even if it isn't recommended.

Thanks EvilSeph for the update. You and yours keep up the great work.

Bad? This is almost my favorite update so far... I really don't care how long it takes. The guys on my server don't mind if we have a temporary map.

  25. We've got build 815. We have a poll on the homepage comparing people who want 1.5 with no server crashes and less bugs or 1.6 and 1.6 is winning. Our server crashes a lot, it appears to be people's player.dat files becoming corrupt. Once we work out who last joined and or did anything before the crash we have do delete their .dat file to fix the server. If you would like a sample of a corrupt .dat, message me and I'll send one next time it happens.
Also, we sometimes get CPU spikes to 100% from 2-12%.

New development build b816 with Minecraft 1.6.5 support is now available.

    Notable changes include:
    • Fixed beds.
    • Fixed issue with arrows crashing clients and servers.
    • Multiworld is DISABLED (this does not include built-in nether portals) pending investigation.
    • Fixed inventory updating through plugins.
    • Fixed entity already in chunk errors.
    • and Multiworld is DISABLED (this does not include built-in nether portals) pending investigation so please don't report issues with it.
This is a non-recommended development and test build. You will not receive support outside of bug reporting. Backing up your server and completely understanding the risks of running this build is highly recommended before you run it.

Once again, we cannot guarantee that this build will not completely corrupt your world or cause a disturbance in the force.

If you completely understand what you are getting into, you can download the latest development test build with this link:
