Everyones talking about this spout plugin, can someone explain to me what exactly it does and why everyone is using it?
What is Spout?! You serious? http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/de...the-flow-of-endless-possibilities-1060.29259/ @DaClowns In shortform - It's a bridge between SP and SMP. - Custom GUI's - Sound / Music - Etc.
It allows a complete join between the client and the server. So that if someone makes a plugin and requires the client to have a certain mod, spout will automatically install the mod to the client.
Spout client has mods installed which allows the server to things it couldn't do previously due to limitations in the client. The server can't install mods to the client... it uses mods that exist in the spout client already...
Well i know that spout has the ability to download files to the client, so i am sure it could add mods but i think there is a secuity feature to stop this.
Pretty sure that those files are only within the context of the spout api, ie. audio textures, & future features added to the api, like on screen gui elements, etc. It doesn't have the ability to load classes. However, as the API itself matures, official classes could be added to incorporate many features which could interact with the server side API part of the total spout package. This would allow for accomplishing many thing previously thought impossible with the vanilla client. I run a spout enabled bukkit server which has implemented many of the plugins already. Correct me if i'm wrong.
Yea that correct, but my original description was what the basic idea behind spout, not its current state because right now it is semi limited being fairly recent. Although it is still a great plugin that i am sure will become one of the most popular plugins if not becoming part of bukkit itself.
