?

Did you save your 1.7 world when you upgraded to 1.8?

    Greetings,

This is my first post on the forums so please be patient as I am unfamiliar with them. I run a private server using Bukkit 1060, Minecraft 1.7.3. I want to know whether 1.8.1 has any incompatibilities with 1.7.3. If so what are they? Can they be addressed?

Is there really a need to create a new world? If at all possible I would like to keep the world I have or at least the majority of it. What is the best way then to transition from 1.7.3 to 1.8.1 with an existing world?

You can easily upgrade from a 1.7.3 world to 1.8.1, but in order to see new 1.8 land generation on that world, you'd have to generate new land.

In that he means...generate new chunks outside the chunks you already have generated. Just to clarify it.

Though I don't know if the level data supports adding strongholds but it will certainly allow new biomes I believe.

@Mukrakiish It'll do strongholds :) Got one on my map that's from April.

It's better off to start fresh with a new 1.8 map. Even if a whole city had been built. That's just me.

Then you get to do it all again for 1.9!

I have multiple worlds now, cause there have been many updates in the past that allow new content, but only in newly generated chunks. My main world has been the way it's been since CB build 1, so long ago. I have multiple portals to new worlds, so you can see new content in them. However, my main *build* world, hasn't changed.

One could, of course, take the content created in one world and import it into another using worldedit.

Ok, that's cool that you feel that way but why do you think it's better to start fresh? Also, who is it better for? You? Your users? Both?
Does your main world not generate new chunks that include the latest changes? If so then what is the appeal for having multiple worlds? I have not used multi-worlds yet but I am interested in finding out their purpose.
This caught my attention however erroring on the side of caution I'm not sure how well a 300 MB+ world might transition. Any advice? Furthermore, would that actually grant an improvement over using the old world. What would that improvement be?
