Updating player entities on maps

Hey Bukkit.

So I was wondering if it possible to update maps with a indicator showing the location of a player.
I have seen this done before, just don't know how to do it myself. No here is the catch, the maps are in item frames. Would the update? How would I go about doing this? Here's a pic of what the map would look like.
