Those terrible zombies...

Is there any way to bring them back to the way they were before update 1.6.x? Any plugin? Any anything? I tried "Old Days" but zombies still come from far, far away and attack. My players complain that it's almost impossible to work at night, because zombies are coming from far beyond the area with lights and jump the players in hordes. (I don't want to use the items to scare them away, or remove them all together).
