Temporary/Fueled LIght Sources

  1. I'm looking for a mod that will make torches burn out after time (and disappear), and adds a couple of 'fueled light' options.

    Outline:
    1. Torches: Torches have a set duration, and will burn out and disappear after 'x' seconds.

    2. Stationary fuel driven light sources.
2a. Coal Ore ~ Place a coal ore block on top of a furnace, if the furnace has fuel in it (Wood/Planks/Stick/Coal/Charcoal) The Ore block will catch on fire, radiate light as a torch, and consume fuel from the furnace at a configurable rate per fuel type as it burns.

2b. Redstone Ore ~ Place a Redstone Ore block on top of a furnace, as above. This will consume all of the above fuel types, but will also consume redstone dust. Redstone dust lasts longer than any other given fuel. Redstone Ore will 'sparkle' when producing light, and will produce light at admin configurable levels.

2c. Lapis Lazuli Ore ~ Place a Lapis Ore block on top of a furnace, as above. This will consume all of the above fuel types, but at a dramatically greater default rate. It only produces light level 7, but Lapis will cause any mob coming into it's light radius to react as if in the sun.

2d. Diamond Ore ~ Like the Lapis Ore, it consumes fuel at a much greater rate (greater even than Lapis). However, it's light level is 11, and has the same effect as Lapis Light.

2e. Glowstone ~ It will produce light at light level 15, and if currently fueled by glowstone (no other fuel source) will act like sunlight on all mobs sensitive to such. (IE ~ Will set them on fire). It will continue produce light at light level 7 if unfueled. By default Glowstone will burn all fuels at a much reduced rate.

    3. Netherrack: Netherrack is great, it produces an unending flame. Netherrack is not so great, placed netherrack is relatively harmless. Lighting netherrack will increase the monster spawn rate in the surrounding area, drop hostile nether-mobs in proximity to itself, and make all mobs in it's area of effect drop no loot. (All of these configurable of course).

    4. Other Glowstone Relevant Data:
4a. Glowstone Blocks: will have it's light reduced to 7, just like redstone torches. However, glowstone dust will serve as a fuel source for all other stationary light sources, and have a ridiculous duration. (something on the line of lava in a furnace).

4b. Glowstone Torches: If one is so inclined, a single glowstone dust will produce 16 normal torches.

    Design Details:

    1. Fuel consumption works just like furnaces, (Fuel is consumed, then burns, to prevent abuse).
    2. Furnaces do not produce light while being used in this configuration.
    3. Fuel consumption speed should be configurable by stationary light type.
    4. Configurable: Running redstone from the light source, to the furnace, will allow the furnace to be hidden from view. The furnace would still be accessible for loading fuel by clicking the light source block. (Coal/Redstone/Glowstone).
    5. All types of stationary light can be activated/deactivated by redstone or left clicking. You can right click the Ore Block to access the chest to place/remove fuel.
    6. All stationary light sources can be connected to their furnaces by red stone over any distance. One could even connect multiple light sources to a single furnace, but it would consume at the rate of the median of all connected light sources.
    7. Optional/Configurable: Only powered lines provide fuel to connected light sources. This would allow a particularly canny person to save on their glowstone dust while powering a Glowstone Light Source, and only switch over to a Furnace containing glowstone fuel strategically.

If I recall correctly, there's no way to set the level of light that the block emits.

Yeah, I've seen that. They address further that the game automatically corrects the block's light after that and it causes massive lag to continually reset the light every time.

  4. Yeah, I noticed that myself. Just have to convince bukkit to give us the necessary hooks to work with that.
