  1. Plugin: Towny

    New Towny Website!

Taking Shades' Towny a step farther.

A versatile, player-controlled land management plugin for use with Bukkit/Tekkit/Spigot/Libigot, offering solutions for pvp, griefing, chat, inflated economies and monsters.

    Features (open)

Towny includes a wide variety of features to offer instant enhancements to your traditional Minecraft server.
    • Allows players to own and manage land based on a pre-set grid layout.
      • Players join towns and purchase plots of land.
      • Players decide who can build, destroy, use "switchs" and use items on every plot they control.
      • Towns can join together into nations, further structuring a server into teams.
      • Towns grant protection from monsters, pvp, fire, explosions and greifing.
    • Wilderness Rules (Optional)
      • Area between towns is wilderness, with its own build permissions.
      • Limit players' interaction with the wild to just harvest-able blocks, keeping the wild pristine.
      • Roll-back tnt, creeper, wither explosions, dragon damage and endermen block-moving.
      • Block explosions and fire.
    • PVP Enhancements
      • Server with a strong PVP aspect will find Towny's grouping of players to be invaluable.
      • Prevent friendly-fire. (Optional)
      • Nations split players into larger teams.
      • Nations can declare other nations to be allies or enemies, further splitting players into even larger teams.
      • PVP can be turned on/off in wilderness, towns and worlds. (Optional)
    • Teleporting/Warping and Spawning (Optional)
      • Players can spawn to their town upon death.
      • Players can spawn to their town or a town that is within their nation/allied with their nation.
    • Customized modified chat. (Optional)
      • Colours, group prefixes and suffixes, nation, town, towny titles.
      • Channels for general, local, town, nation, moderator, admin and custom channels.
      • Anti-spam feature.
    • Shop plugin support. (Optional)
      • Limit shops to special Shop Plots, enhancing realism.
    • Economy plugin interaction. (Optional)
      • Supports all economy plugins.
      • Charge money for plots, towns, nations.
      • Flexible tax system.
      • Upkeep to remove money from the economy, stopping rampant inflation.
    • All Permissions Plugins supported. (Optional)
      • Perms 2/3, GroupManager, BukkitPermissions, bPermissions, PermissionsEx, etc.
    • Multiworld Support
      • Flexible settings for every world.
      • Enable/disable Towny in as many worlds as you like.

    • No other plugins, but is best with Questioner, so that invitations are given by Towns and Nations to residents and towns.
    • Questioner 0.6
    • Essentials 2.5+ - (Towny /town spawn's obey Essentials teleport cooldown)
    • All permissions plugins are supported and provide greater customization (recomend GroupManager).
    • Economy plugin of your choice.
(We no longer recommend using PEX at all. It breaks TownyPerms due to the reflection PEX performs.)

When i create a new town i seem to get an internal server error, ive checked my startup logs and i dont have any errors. just wondering why this would happen, below is a list of my plugins if that helps.
  8. Remove Vault and see if it then works. If not you must have an error somewhere from a plugin breaking rgister.

Are you sure this still works, i tested this on a test server with no plugins other than, essentials (for economy),questioner, register.1-5, towny, townychat.
And i STILL got internal server error.
  12. Offline

Pastebin.com the error, and a full server startup.

    Give them the permission nodes.

Your town Zeelarcas isnt in the towns.txt file, if there is no Zeelarcas.txt in the towns folder then remove Zeelarcas from the world.txt file.

If there is a Zeelarcas.txt in the towns folder then add Zeelarcas to the towns.txt.

When people are alone on our server, it says "You feel so lonely". How do I disable it from saying this? I can't seem to find anything in the config for towny chat or the regular config.

I have also had this problem. I had to delete the towns that were getting deleted overnight and recreated them. Everything was okay after that. Please tell me if you found another way :) It would help.

Now I have a huge problem..
I uploaded my plugins to the host that hosts my server.. and now the main town is "gone"
Its still there, with no mayor, no members, no blocks.. NOTHING.. What should I do? :S Which folder should I upload again?
(I wont upload the whole towny folder again, because its at 200MB without the backups)

I replaced the [townname].txt file with the one on my computer that worked fine.
The one that got all the info about the town. And still, nothing.

This is how the towns text file looks like: http://pastebin.com/EsfYckU9

    In game, its nothing.
I've tryed uplaoding the whole Towny folder again, no luck. It works perfectly on my computer, but when uploaded, it stops?

ok.. so I have been asking on both this forum and the bpermissions forum for a solution to my prefix/suffix issue. You all here say its bpermissions, they say its You. Can I please get a real responce on this issue.. Its been over 5 days now and all im getting is the run-around and people pointing fingers. Noone is willing to check for errors or a fix. Just useless comments and information.
To recap: Prefix/Suffix are not being pulled properly. This chat plugin pulls numerous groups and not by priority, They pull alphabetically.
CodenameB says theres no way his plugin is sending more than one prefix, It's the way towny is working. You all say its bpermissions. Can i get some real help this time?

OK, so I don't know how to assign someone a specific plot in town using Towny.

I'm the mayor of the town (and the admin of the server), I have all the nodes, but I just don't know how to actually give someone in my town a plot that's just for them.

Basically, I want to set it up so Residents can't build or break anywhere except their plot. The issue is that I don't know how to assign a specific person in my town a plot of land.

If this could be explained, that'd be great. If there's a way to set some kind of tax for them to keep their plot, that'd be even better (not something forced, just something that'd be decided by the mayor per plot). Thanks.
  19. Ok. Towny chat asks for, looks for, and receives ONE prefix from bPerms for the players group.
We also check for a players prefix. If you are seeing two prefixes, then you have set two prefixes.

Would it be possible to obtain the source code for towny? See the problem I am having is that I want to make it so players can join a nation, but not a town, because I want the option to do a "nation war" but so far I haven't figured a way to do that yet in the files.

Is there a way to do this, and also to change the commands people type. For example typing /empire join instead of /town join?

    Thank you.

I didn't change a single setting in my permissions or towny (other than assigning the general channel perm) when upgrading to then 1.1r3 builds of towny and bperms. Everything was working perfectly fine before then. The update had to have changed something with the way prefix's are given or pulled.
I do not have multiple prefixes on any group. I have groups with priorities set with bpermissions. I can see empty spaces for groups with no prefixes set at all on them. I have even tested this by assigning multiple groups with no prefixes attached at all. This produced 5 blank spaces then my name. Something is pulling extra groups. Am I the only one having this issue?
    My perm file - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47840868/groups.yml
  24. Nothing has changed in towny in relation to prefixes.
You either have it set to display pefixes AND groups, or you have personal prefixes as well as group prefixes.

Its a simple setting in the config file. Evidentally when a town has no money in the bank, they get deleted overnight. Atleast this was my problem. I went in and changed that setting and have had no problems since.
  26. Offline

ok if towny is able to show prefixes AND groups... how do I turn it off... As i have been through my configurations many many many many many many times.... You are giving me partial information. Why can u not say, its this setting in this config.. can u please be a little more descriptive... My only chat plugin is yours..... You would be the one that would know the answer. And saying that I changed something when I am absolutely positive all i did was add the new jar to my folder.. is just ridiculous. This plugin broke in some way. What could cause this other than a change in the plugin. I am not a new server host. I have been hosting for years now. I know its not my configurations as, and i repeat, IT WORKED BEFORE UPDATE, NO SETTINGS CHANGED, AFTER UPDATE ITS BROKE. I have spent over a week now trying to get this fixed, and all i get is fingers being pointed. this help forum here is becoming rather filled with useless troll information Instead of solutions. I guess its time to get rid of towny and go to a plugin that will offer a little help when someone asks for it instead of giving the run-around.
Instead of giving me the runaround could you please actually look into a bug this time instead of assuming its my configurations. I have sent you my permissions file.... you probably didnt even look at it. If you had you would see I don't have any extra prefix's or suffix's. No players in my user's list have any prefix's there. This issue is with EVERY PLAYER on the server and EVERY RANK. Either your plugin or Bpermissions broke, and neither of you are willing to do anything about it other than point fingers.
edit- Just for Sh*ts and giggle... I downgraded back to last version... and no big surprise... It all works just fine... It is 100% proof postitive that it is this build of towny! Now instead of giving me another useless post.. could you please look into this.
    Mishrathium likes this.
  27. There is nothing to look into. If you bothered to read what I post instead of trying to point fingers yourself you would already know it IS your configuration.
Look in teh ChatConfig.yml and you will find your chat formatting. You will also see you have it set to show prefixes AND groups.

If you read the changelog, which I dilligently update, you will read about every change I make.

Hi, I can´t find any solution for my problem.
If I restart my server, all claimed plots are removed.
    Everything worked until bukkit R3.
Is it possible, that any other plugin break it so it can´t save the town plots?
I bonus townblocks are shown but if I add an claim, the "config" doesnt change.
    best regards Phibedy

        # This is the format which will be used for GLOBAL chat/channels.
        # This is also the format used when you have modify_chat.enable: true, but use other plugins to handle chat.
        global: '{permprefix} {modplayername}{permsuffix}: {msg}'
        # TOWN channel types.
        town: '{channelTag} {townycolor}{permprefix}{townyprefix}{playername}{townypostfix}{permsuffix}&f: {msgcolour}{msg}'
        # NATION channel types.
        nation: '{channelTag}{towntagoverride}{townycolor}{permprefix}{townyprefix}{playername}{townypostfix}{permsuffix}&f: {msgcolour}{msg}'
        # DEFAULT channel types.
        default: '{channelTag} {modplayername}{permsuffix}&f: {msgcolour}{msg}'
          world: '&f[&f%s&f] '
          town: '&f[&3%s&f] '
          nation: '&f[&e%s&f] '
          # First %s is the nation tag, second is the town tag.
          both: '&f[&6%s&f|&3%s&f] '
        # Chat colours
        king: '&6'
        mayor: '&b'
        resident: '&f'
        # This is used for when you don't have another plugin to format chat.
        # or you want some other plugin to handle open chat, but want Towny formatting.
        # It will cause Towny to overwrite any other plugins alterations to the format.
        enable: 'true'
        # If true the chat formats will be read from below to allow per world formatting.
        # These can then be altered individually.
        per_world: 'false'
This is directly from the chat config.... where do u see it doing that... Only place i see anything close is in the per worlds section, which is set to false... If the config doesnt see that i have it set to false there is a bug.
  30. global: '{permprefix} {modplayername}{permsuffix}: {msg}'

That is using modplayername, therefore it is displayign whatever any other plugin has modified. It can be the onyl place any additional tags are being read from.
Some other plugin is adding them and Towny is displaying them. This is NOT a TownyChat bug. It is only displaying what it is told to display.

How can I make space between the plots?
