    Introduction to Heroes
    Heroes is a dynamic, flexible and highly configurable class, skill and experience system. Heroes itself is the hub of your players RPG experience, boasting classes, multi-tiered and fully fleshed out. Along with classes, Heroes offers your players a new style of PvP through our well-developed skill system and our weapon + armor restrictions. No longer will your mages have the ability to use diamond swords, your rogues will no longer sneak around in their heavy diamond tunics and most importantly, you can now hurl fireballs and stun your targets. The best part of this? It's your choice how your Heroes is set up, don't want a certain skill, that's fine, you can just remove the skill and be done with it! We're working towards making everything about Heroes configurable.

    What can I do with it?
    With Heroes, you can do almost anything you'd want to do on an RPG server. The main feature is our customizable tiered class system, which offers as much to the server owner as possible. Your Heroes could be totally unique to your server, it could be the reason players play your server over a server with Heroes but a different set up. The same can be said about our skill system, it's unique to any of the other RPG plugins out there. Other plugins dub "Skills" as methods which you level up, this isn't the case with Heroes. Skills are things you can do which are unique to your class. Some of our favorite skills are Fireball, Jump and Port. This is what makes Heroes unique.

    What will you help me with?
    We'll help you with errors. That is where it ends. We will not be supporting your issues with your configuration files unless it's a bug within our code. Heroes is a big plugin and it's taken a few months to develop, we don't want to spend the next few months supporting silly issues rather than developing new and awesome features. Posting in this thread with an issue regarding a YML file will get you ignored. We'll be OK with helping you understand the configuration files, but we will not be fixing them for you.

    Where can I download it?
    You can download the latest recommended build here. You can download only the primary Heroes jar or the primary jar along with all the skills provided in a ZIP archive. Each skill inside the ZIP is enclosed in it's own jar, meaning you can pick and choose what skills you want your server to run. This is so you don't have un-necessary weight on your server.

      • Example: herosneak.sneak can be granted to a "Rogue" class at level 10 - so when they reach level 10 - they can now use the ability /sneak

      • Ability to '/bind <skillname>' to an item to right click and use that skill
      • Use '/bind' again to clear the bind and remove the right click ability
      • Currently only works for Permitted-Skills

      • Armor & Weapon restrictions based on level and class

      • /level - to show information about the level - comes with a nice interface to show you how much left to obtain the next level.
      • Set a mastery level - once achieved the user may switch to different classes and have their level/skills saved on the mastered class.
      • Configurable curves of exp to make lower levels easier and higher levels harder to get through
      • Optional Health gain per level
      • Configurable loss of exp (0.10 = 10% per death) by current level

    So Heroes lets you instantly destroy blocks and such for a period of time like mcMMO does out of the box? Those kinds of features are the ones that I really like about mcMMO, double and triple drops are okay but I can have that done by chance with the drops plugin I use if I really needed that to happen. If this really can do everything mcMMO can, I'd probably switch, but if not my Mom will kill me if she loses her superbreaker ability.

    They are not releasing the majority of skills in 1.2.5 in 1.3. You are going from about 92 skills in 1.2.5 to roughly 39ish skills in 1.3. You've a lot less skills to work with when building classes.

    Sleaker told me the plugin was developed almost exclusively for HeroCraft and they were tired of people copying their server, thus, they are keeping the skills they want unique to their server out of the public 1.3 release. Can't blame them, its their plugin/skills and they can do whatever they want with them.

    I suppose you could develop your own customized skills if you are good with java.

    well if thats the case, whats to stop someone just copying the skills as on herocraft as a skill jar publicly, and the same situation comes up again? Seems a no win situation..

    Remove the skills so Herocraft is unique (which it should be its the basis of the server that gave life to the plugin) but then give the ability to allow anyone to just remake the skills mirroring it.

    But if you take the ability to make custom Jars away, then get flooded with requests for skills to be added.

    But in the end, the basic idea is: if you are using Herocraft currently, and need to keep updated to 1.3 to make it compatible, you will need to completely redo, reassign, and have every member you have now restart as a new class, as we are no longer supporting any setup you may have been using happily thus far?

    Without sounding almost sounds like:
    "Thanks to all the admins that supported, and made this plugin so wildly popular. When we released it, we didnt realize it would draw so much attention. Now that we have seen this, and cannot take back the decision not to keep it a custom plugin for our server...We will remedy the situation by punishing those very ones that made it so popular to begin with. Love it or hate it, you have no choice in the matter."

    Now I totally agree that Herocraft server should be by default THE herocraft server, with ability to be something the others cannot..but it should be "we are adding more skills in 1.3 for us personally, that the release wont have" not a "we are stripping any skills you may be using currently, as to keep our server the home of Herocraft".
    I fail to see the logic in how to stay unique against something you have released to many, you remove what you have already offered...Instead expand upon what you have already given, and keep it only for yourself. making the plugins home BETTER, without making the current fans servers worse.

    Sleaker changed the coding in the skills between 1.2.5 and 1.3. So, if you throw the 1.2.5 skills into the 1.3 skills folder your server will spit out a bunch of errors. If you are good with java you can go in and recompile the 1.2.5 skills and make them compatible with 1.3.

    We have been testing 1.2.5 on our Test Server for a few months - balancing classes and what not... but all that work was apparently for naught. Also, I wouldn't expect HeroCraft Coding Team to make custom skills or release any of their skills to you outside the 39ish in 1.3.

    And, I sorta agree with you bro, but what can we do? I'm not a java programmer by trade. I was actually looking at integrating this plugin on my server, but now, with the huge wrench thrown into the mix...... I might just stick with mcMMO (been using it for 8 months, not a lot of issues with it, I donate regularly to the dev and he's pretty responsive).

    At this moment in time, you get 39ish skills in 1.3..... you will most likely have to either dumb down your classes or completely rework them.

    No like I said, I agree totally, its his work, and his time, and charity that brings us the plugin to start with and the home server SHOULD be the above and beyond and others.
    Just from a application engineer stand-point, to remove features you already have given away to keep the inhouse version competitive, instead of adding custom features in the future to the base you already have established to make your personal version stand above the bad business practice.

    Im not one to argue the justification, or his right to do so. that IS totally within his rights and ability to do so. without anyone telling him otherwise.
    I'm arguing against the choice of actions taken to correct the situation.

    Its like Microsoft could come out with windows 8 closed beta release for inhouse usage..and go "we really couldn't think of any new features making it unique over windows 7. So to rectify this situation, we are putting out a new windows 7 SP for public users, that disables many things in it. You are free to continue using win7 without this pack, but we will not give support to you, if you wish to stay up to date, you must use the disabled windows 7 make windows 8 the inhouse testbed of choice."

    I in no way plan to copy Herocrafts setup, haven't even been to the server to see what they have as a theme of classes. So please don't assume I'm arguing for the change so I can mirror them. that's not my intent.

    but if it ends up being so, It looks like I will have to spend a good bit of time in eclipse, reproducing what we had work with 1.3. but does this in turn also annoy Sleaker, as I would be adding back in, the very features he removed by a decision he made on his own plugin?
    Am I allowed to release the reimplemented skills publicly? or does that step on the toes of the devs intent by removing them. Last thing i want to do is reintroduce an problem that a dev has decided how to fix, because I disagree with his IS his plugin afterall.

    @Kainzo : I've just update to your latest dev version, and was surprised to see that lots of skills have been removed oO
    Plus, player's can't choose there class anymore. Works fine for admins.
    Have you change a permission node or something? If yes, which one?

    Using Bukkit 1392, PermissionsEx, Spout 529 and Spoutcraft 783.

    EDIT : just a noob mistake, shame on me. Classe name must be on lowercase in permission node. Forget that.

    if the minecraft exp bar will be used for heroes exp how will you manage enchanting will it be put into a class?

    Hey Kainzo, just wondering, how can i add exp onto total exp without setting the total exp?
    For example they have X amount of exp, is there anyway to add onto that rather than add a total(as to not mess up levels and stuff)
    Perhaps a command like:
    /hero admin add exp <player> <amount>
    rather than
    /hero admin exp <player> <amount>
    unless there is that option already
    any help greatly appreciated :D

    If your inventory is full and you try to use an item your not allowed to, Heroes confiscates your item and tells you to use /heroes recoveritems to get it back, however the command has since been changed to /hero recover. Might want to change the instructions given when your item is confiscated.
