[REQ] Overhead name colourer?

I'm not sure if it's been done, but I can't see it...

Is it possible for a mod that changes the colour of the OVERHEAD in-world name of a player? (and possible add a prefix as defined in Permissions?)

Doesn't changing color require client side mods?

 

You can actually do this with a server mod, but it breaks skins. Since the client uses the name to find the correct skin, any change to it will make it so it can't find the correct skin.

 

Is there any way you can fix that?

 

Not without a client-side mod.

 

I can't wait til Notch implements the Modding API!

 

Would've been nice if the true name was different than the visible one. Then the namechanger plugins could change names, chat plugins would show colored prefixes and suffixes, and I could finally make all thief clan faction members have red names as in hostile. Sad truth is, either skins or colored names. :/
