Hello fellow Bukkiters, I have a simple question. How much RAM would you suggest if I were to run a small hamachi server (1-6 players), play on the server, and use Fraps (to record video) at the same time?

    Thanks! :)

1 Gig for the bukkit server

I have a Pentium D with 3GB of RAM, and the server runs briliiantly - 1 / 1.5 GB would be ample. However, playing on the same machine is a bad idea - if you really want to, then go for at least 2GB, preferably 3.

1gig I would say. Fraps isn't the problem it's hosting and playing on the same machine. Do what I did and splash out on a custom built gaming tower. I can run 2 minecrafts a bukkit server and fraps with ease

I was thinking of building my own computer with 8 GB of RAM, will that do the trick?

8 gigs I think is overkill for 1-6 players, but with how cheap RAM is, you can't go wrong.

My PC has 8GB of RAM, I am wondering how much of that I can safely assign to my server.
Its just for about 5 players, but we mess around a lot with world edit, it currently has 2GB, but i want to give it more

    Thanks

More RAM never is a problem :)

8GB for 1 - 6 players is fine. It will run without lag unless you have very, very poor internet connection.

Also, does the processor really matter for a small server like this? I am thinking of either the Core i5 2500k or the AMD Phenom ii 970 Black Edition. I know that the Core i5 is much better, but if I get the other it'll save me a long period of money saving.

    Thanks again!

In my experience, Minecraft prefers Intel.

However, for practical performance (gaming, etc), the i5 will beat the shit out of that Phenom, so go with the i5.
