Question Optimal Number of Player Slots

I just recently built a new PC, and I'm hosting a Spigot/Bukkit 1.8.7 server. I'm unsure as to how many player slots I should allow. Here are my system specifications:

Intel Core i3-4170 @ 3.7GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3

Download Speed: 25Mbps
Upload Speed: 12Mbps

If anyone could give me a general number, that would be great.

 

Depends on which plugins you have and how many RAM you dedicate to your server. I suggest dedicating 4GB to your server so that you will probably have enough power for a quite a few decently intensive plugins and around 30 players or so. That i3 isn't the most powerful though. You should just kinda play it by ear. You can always look in to hosting on dedicated machines which is quite cheap per-month.

So to answer your question maybe set it to 50 for now?
