So, it has come to my attention that Nodus (the hacked client) has a built-in IRC that most Nodus users are too nooby to turn off. I was wondering if it would be possible to develop a plugin that either: A: Inserted an IRC client into the server. The server then scans all usernames on the nodus chatroom (#nodus on irc.teamavolition.com) and saves them to a .txt file. At 2-3 minute intervals, all usernames on the list are tempbanned for 1 day for a customizable reason. Or B: Scans a completely separate IRC client, either through the use of a separate program to do the scanning, or using the plugin itself, then saves the usernames to a .txt file. The rest is the same as option A.
That seems like it would work. Sounds cool. However I use Nodus for non-griefing purposes, either to speed on my own server or build walls quickly. You would be banning innocent players.
Bans would be appealable, and only 1 day long... Essentially, it would block you from using the server if you had used Nodus that day, but would revert afterwards. also, there are ways to disable the Nodus IRC, this method just relies on Nodus user's general inability to comprehend that deactivating it might help them remain undetected, or even ignorance to the availability of an IRC turnoff command.
I prefer nodus over the original client due to functionality, This would be incredibly useful for my friends at pvpminecraft though
Good idea it would only work on online servers and would require a bypass permission for owners/admins to use.
As soon as this plugin is released, people will change their IRC name to something else and/or disable IRC.
As stated this has the same flaw as the "you must type - to enter the server" idea; the moment it is released and a Nodus developer is notified of it a fix will be put out, and Nodus's auto-update will patch the flaw. Granted, it will work temporarily. (to the tune of days/weeks) Depending on what IRC server Nodus uses you might be able to get the data through a web service.
