Mysql connection timeouts/errors only from scheduled tasks

I've tried asking in bukkitdev with no luck. My plugin runs queries on command as well as on a schedule. However, only those on the schedule show up as causing various timeout/connection closed errors. I try my best to re-open connections with the db code but that's apparently not good enough.
