Mojang have just released an update for Minecraft, bringing us to Minecraft 1.1.

Along with several bug fixes, this update provides the following:
    • Bow Enchantments
    • Golden Apple recipe
    • New language translations.
    • Slightly smoothed color transitions between biomes
    • Reduced brewing time to 20 seconds
    • Added spawn eggs to creative (the colors of the eggs even look like the mobs)
    • Added world type options (currently only super-flat and default)
    • Removed collision box from ladders
    • Sheep eat grass and regain their wool
While you wait for us to release an update, check out this video for a sneak peek on what Minecraft 1.1 has to offer:

Please try and advise your users not to update or they will likely not be able to connect to your server. If you would like to help us out with the update process, you can hop on our IRC chat on irc.esper.net @ #bukkit and report any bugs you come across (both Minecraft and Bukkit bugs when we have a compatible development build out).

This is just a short announcement to let you know that we are aware of this and are working on it as I type this.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. As always, we'll have a development build out as soon as possible to support this update and will follow with an RB when we feel it is ready.

you have to give them the minecraft.jar. minecraft.exe is just a launcher. its .minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar

  3. in relation to the reverting to 1.0 its very very easy.
go to your .minecraft folder in appdata. and u will have a .jar file called minecraft1.0.0.jar just delete ur minecraft.jar and rename that one to minecraft.jar
takes about 30 seconds to roll back a version

minecraft does not automatically keep old versions of itself, it just overwrites. What you are describing will only work if you have backed up your minecraft.jar previously

Still got this question: If I upgrade my server to 1.1
does the players lose their stuff or will the map be gone?

    ./minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar

    Thats all they need.

I have jar backups since 1.2 (and you can't have them) . If you just keep your old jars all problems are solved.

Maps won't be gone since of course, it's still there in your files naturally. Just good idea to do a server backup, just in the case of updating. Bukkit won't be compatible with 1.1 for a while, so naturally you'll have to use the basic minecraft server.

Nothing should be lost for anyone, but keeping backups of worlds for upgrades is always ideal.

the map and inventories keep over updates, the only thing you lose is mods (for a while) so if you are using industrialcraft or something you will need to use the old jar to access it. even then, when you update the server the map stays

Considering the amount of stuff in this update isn't a lot, I would say 1 week or 2. Max 1 month.

Could someone be kind enough to estimate me when a dev release will be available, and would it be safe to run that on my server till a stable one is released.

    Thanks in advanced

  19. Wow. Mojang handles the GAME. Bukkit handles the multiplayer. Get it in your heads. Show a little respect for the game you play?

That's the problem with Bukkit. We don't know.
@Dinnerbone 's estimate is currently stage 2/3, 40% as of 5:40pm GMT. It's not accurate though, just his perception.

Can anyone tell me if jeb's tweaks to the terrain generator are in this release? Notch twittered about that stuff, but nowhere it says whether this is in 1.1 or not. I'm asking because I'd need to crop my world again before updating, run mcmerge etcpp....

Indeed, this is a problem with any sort of development, there really isn't a good way to give an accurate estimate.

Also: To everyone discussing sharing minecraft.jar files, this is illegal and doing so is not permitted on this forum.

PLEASE take your time and get it right. You guys really make Minecraft functional and it's greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I prefer the 'wait 6 months between updates' approach. That way it gives time for servers to be set up before having to wait for updates again. Open Source is awesome, don't get me wrong, but there is something called moderation. Maybe it needs to be applied?

    Edit:

Something I had thought up(and probably not the only one) is having Stable Builds, Recommended Builds and Dev Builds. Stable Builds are Dev Builds that are completely stable and plugin developers can work off them(the current Recommended Builds, as they are called right now). Recommended Builds are Stable Builds(current RBs) that plugin developers have pretty much finished developing for and have stable plugins for that build. The object would be to give servers and plugin developers stable builds to actually work with. Rather than going "oh hey! you need to update everything again." every two to three weeks(or six).

Tell that to Mojang. Usually when there's an update, bukkit servers population lowers until bukkit updates.

Considering 95% just hit "update", and there is no easy way for players to revert, I'd say so.
