Ok so its either Minecraft or Bukkit causing excessive memory/leaks. So whos gonna confess to it?

Noticed a 50% increase in memory usage after updating to 1.3.1 on both my servers. More memory for stupid cocoa beens and a few new blocks? Or is bukkit still causing problems?

And please dont say plugins as i am using the same plugins as i used in 1.2.5 (which are updated to 1.3.1 now).

Just because you're using the same plugins, it doesn't mean it's not the plugins' fault. Plugins may need to be updated to perform better on the new versions.

Didnt i say they have been updated to 1.3.1? Does anyone actually "read"?

    List of plugins please.
Even though a plugin gets updated to 1.3.1 it doesn't mean it's immune to breaking.

Also the more info we know about your setup the more we can help, knowledge is power as they say.

EDIT: I've got servers running 24/7 and had no memory leaks so far.
3 servers, not 1 going over 1GB of ram, not exactly active servers but they've been running long enough for any memory leaks to popup.

I said plugins. Do you actually "read"?

If that was a request for him to list plugins, than your reply was the only possible thing I can think of that was more vague than his question.

Excuse my not reading all the way. Again it DOESN'T mean it's not the plugins' fault. Your condescending reply just made you sound more ignorant. It could very well be the plugins. It would help if you could provide a list.

I think that Microsoft has given the world the most visible proof that "up to date" does not always mean "working 100%"!

Ok to get back on track here we need a lot more info to see what is going on with your system.

first, os, machine specs, java version, start up script, cb build, plugin list.

if you can not provide this info for us then there is not much we can do to help you.

I'll explain in more detail. What I meant when I said "plugins" is that the plugins may be causing the lag.

Most plugins that updated to 1.3 (NoCheatPlus, bPermissions, etc.) aren't just the same as the 1.2.5 version only rebuilt, as you may believe. They implement new features which in turn may bring in new memory leaks. Therefore, if you updated your plugins to 1.3 versions, that could be a cause for memory leaks.

I wonder if he's ever going to list his plugins for us so we can actually try to help him...

No, because it's obviously not the plugins. He even said so.

If i do save-all in console my ram usage dropped to 170mb while it was 1.6gb before.
Not sure if i help you here but it dident have that problem in 1.2.5.

I am almost curious as to what this guy saw that makes him think "memory leak" even... using more memory isn't always a sign of a leak...

Why more than 1 permissions manager? I can almost guarantee if you remove all addons and then add them back one at a time you will soon find out that it's one of your plugins causing the leak.

There are a few of them that I wasn't able to find an updated version of... quite sure the answer you dreaded is the correct one afterall. It's your plugins.

Either way, many of his addons listed didn't have updates to 1.3.1 yet, so I'm unsure how they were all updated hehe.

May not be a memory leak but it sure does have to do with bukkit and/or minecraft. I have read countless forum post regarding mob spawning issues, even TPS drops due to mobs and after a few hours tweaking my servers in toning down mob spawning my RAM and TPS are pretty close back to normal like it was in 1.2.5. Oh and guess what, plugins are all still the same, gee, imagine that......

Thanks for all the help which was clearly not useful at all as everyone always tends to point the fingers at plugins which is not the case 50% or more of the time. But hey, feel free to continue to be closed minded baboons and keep plugin hatting!

Now to get bukkit/minecraft to fix the mob spawn rate stupidity . it seems even the offbreed bukkits cant even figure it out (yet).

You come here asking for help, we try to help you in what way we can(which is limited as this is not a wide spread issue), you then become aggressive and insulting towards us...

As much as I don't like going against someone's opinion... this is wrong, there is no hard evidence for this claim.

Now I'm not denying there may be an issue with Minecraft or Bukkit... but I do know this "memory leak" is not a wide spread 100% everyone is getting it, issue.

I myself run a few bukkit servers and 1 tekkit server, none of which have had any sorts of memory leaks at all in the past 72hours+ they have been running.
The average I see is a memory usage of about 800MB to 1.5GB, neither of which I am even remotely concerned about nor think there is any sort of memory leak, this is maybe about 200MB more than what I would have seen on 1.2.5 but this does not contribute to a memory leak.

I have yet to see anyone "trying" to help here. All i have seen is "plugins". You call this helping?

Yes i jumped to conclusions and raged memory leak at first is why i posted for help. After helping "myself" i have found many issues regarding mob spawn rates within bukkit and made some adjustments and now my ram usage has lowered, even TPS issues have somewhat gone away.
