   How would I make Gold armour act the same or better than Diamond armour?

   You send packets making the client think that you are wearing gold armor but you are really wearing diamond armor.
   
   If you don't want to go into NMS, you will have to listen to the EntityDamageEvent and make the appropriate changes.

   So Just Check their armour through EntityDamageEvent and use setDamage() ?
