Lot Of Lag In My Server Help?!?

Ok I have a Mac Os X Snow Leopard and it's a version 10.6.8 and I have a 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 For memory and my processor is a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5. I put 3G in my server and my friends are saying that it's lagging very badly for them. What could I do to fix the problem to make it less laggy? Buy A better computer?

 

Go to speedtest.net, run a test and post the results here (upload, download and ping)

Can you copy the contents of your server.log file and upload them to pastebin.com?

 

You mean the whole server.log?

 

I'm guessing you have a macbook pro - in normal situations the system will use at least 1GB of ram.
If you're running a server from the same machine you're playing minecraft on, this simply won't work if you've dedicated 3G of ram to bukkit.

Change the RAM you've given to bukkit to 1GB.

** I don't think the server log will matter now, what I've said above does.

Yes, that will give an extra 2048MB of ram to your system to allow it to function more efficiently.

Please post back saying if the problem is on-going.

Get your friend to go to speedtest.net and get their download and upload speed.

Also get them to do the following....
replace BLUERAVEN_IPADDRESS with the IP address they are trying to connect to with minecraft
If they use Windows, get them to do this:

1. Hold the windows flag button and R at the same time
2. This should open the Run window
3. type cmd
4. press enter
5. * Command Prompt Loads *
6. Run this command:
7. ping BLUERAVEN_IPADDRESS
8. To stop pinging, press CTRL+C

Mac/Linux instructions:

1. Open Terminal
2. Run command:
3. ping BLUERAVEN_IPADDRESS
4. To stop pinging, press CTRL+C

Post the results here. They should get information like min/max/packet loss.

 

Ok my friend's upload speed is 0.23mbps,download speed is 6.06, ping is25ms

 

That should be ok, did they ping in the command prompt like I said in my previous post?

They need to ping your IP address.

fix #2 use another OS, everything is better than mac (just kidding, but I'm anti mac =D)
fix #3 (the real one) you can have the best server in the world, if your internet connection sucks, players always have lagg, can that be the issue?

DUDE, calm down man, people are going to LAG, sometimes is not something you can fix, the issue might be on his end and not yours.

When he looks at the server just before logging in, he will see the green signal bars, have him hover his mouse over that and post the number he gets.

Keep in mind, he might just have a crappy computer

Do you lag when you're playing minecraft?

With your decent upload speed, they should lag either unless there's a problem at their end.

I dont lag that much, but I kinda do sometimes. When i chat, i have to wait for around a min sometimes
