Lag when someone joins

Since a couple of days I have a problem with my server.
Sometimes when someone joins the server gets a lag for about 20/30 seconds.
What could this be and how can I fix it?

Maybe you use a permissions plugin that has a bug in it.

When a player joins, permission plugins usually start to parse files/query databases etc. to find out about all the permissions that the player has and assign it to the player. If something goes wrong here, it can lead to quite heavy delays.

I believe one version of PermissionsEx suffered from such a problem. Don't know which one and why though.

 

zaros told me to delete some of the player.dat files

 

We think it might be mcMMO. It loads files when someone joins and unload files when someone left.

 

Try disabling it and see if that fixes your problem.

 

Did fix our problem (Im a admin on bart's server aswell) We temp disabled BB and McMMO and the server survived the night with no real problems during it so I think it was the SQL

 

The lag spikes seem to be mostly coming when people lose connection and try to connect.

Also, when looking at the server ratios, I noticed full peaks on the CPU, whereas the CPU would peak on the 100% when the lag takes place.

I have also noticed that it takes at least 12 minutes to shutdown the server when running the "stop" command, though I know that is not supposed to happen.
