I run a debian 64 bit server, all the java information is in the error file. I was running a craftbukkit server. Memory usage: allocated ~1500mb/10gb, machine has 32gb total ram. Not many players online at the time, maybe 10 at most. I was not online at the time, but I know that no resource intensive commands were used at the time of the crash. Hopefully that is enough preliminary information. I found this file in my server directory 'hs_err_pid18911.log'

It's probably a problem with your jre, try updating /downgrading.

Is 'apt-get update' suitable? Or do I need to manually update java some how.

That is suitable but it appears you are on latest java

    1.7.0_09-b05

Maybe you would have better luck with OpenJDK

So you think the java version is to blame, not the bukkit process.
