just like the title says
single core p4 @2.4 ghz 1.5 gigs of ram. 2 seperate hard drives,OS on one server folder on the other.im using a striped down windows xp right now and was wondering if windows server 2k3 would be better/more light weight.i know the server specs are real low but its just a small server and seem to handel 10-15 players allright
I wouldnt host anymore than 15
I'd say set max players to 10, if you have more than 10 plugins
its set to 15. that wasnt my original question tho
I cant answer if its good for bukkit. Bukkit isnt built for a specific computer type
windows server 2k3 is an OS not a 'specific computer type'
Bukkit is made for Pc, mac or linux. Its not coded for a 2003 model of windows.
ummm .well pc a type of computer.mac, depending on the context could be either an OS or type of computer and linux is an OS.lol either im not understanding you correctly or you are confused a bit.or perhaps its the language barrier thing getting in the way
Kalas2626 just use linux. It's much more light weight. Therefore, you can host more people. (internet speed not taken into account )
gahhh lol i was waiting for someone to say that.but linux requires me to learn a whole buncha commands and stuff that i dont know :O it read a lil on it and it seems fairly complicated.and drivers, thats another concern of mine with linux
First off, I meant of*
I have 5 Macs, 2 Pcs, and 1 pc with linux. They all can host a server just fine. Dont worry about it. What im most concerned is the limited amount of RAM. And depending on your internet speed, it may not run well.
I cant tell you the answer to your question. You'll have to find out.
Edit: And linux isnt that hard, use this tutorial to help. http://wiki.bukkit.org/Setting_up_a_server
thx for the TUT and ya, the ram sux but it seems to hold up not to bad with 15 players and i torture tested it with 300 tnt going off and as it DID lag it didnt go down.i think the page file MEM saved it lol.
commands: learn them, it really isn't that hard
drivers: since you have old hardware, it will more than likely have the drivers for the entire machine
the only reason you don't want to try linux is because you are unwilling to learn, guess what, you probably shouldn't try running a server if you have that mentality. A reason for not trying it is commands, what do you think minecraft serer administration is based on, using commands (in game or console)
ya. well mostly im worried about drivers actually.im MORE then willing to learn.i learn all sorts of stuff everyday as a matter of fact and doing research is one of my main past times
What are you talking about?
i was wondering the same thing
Bukkit IS NOT made for one computer. Im not posting on this thread anymore, its a waste of my time
i supose hes saying that bukkit is multi platform.just a kinds indirect, cryptic way of saying it
Separate names with a comma.
