Is there no simple way ... Item input Validation

I am wondering if there is a simple way of validating item inputs

for example i inputed 17 12 i would get an item stack of 12 logs

if it was 18:2 4 i would get an item stack of 4 birch leaves etc

Any snippit that i could put that into would be Perfect
