i have a really awkward vb program that does it for me, so i don't have to keep track of it. all i have to do is run it once every few days and it does the rest by itself

type in "findmyip.com" and it tells you the ip you have to give out to people for them to be able to connect

When I try to run the server, it gives me a message that says "Error: Unable to access jarfile..." and a bunch of other stuff, can you help me fix that?

the program at the end of the installer should download it for you. if not, wait for the operator panel to load, then click "download recommended build" on the right

Ok, I managed to get the server to at least start. But every time I join it I get the "Failed to verify username" error within the actual Minecraft game.

ah, sorry, been majorly preoccupied with other things at the moment! i'll send the links your way

the message you get arises from the fact that the program has not come from a reliable source (ie. i'm not registered with your antivirus company as being "safe"). however, you can rest assured that there are no viruses in this, so please disable your antivirus whilst downloading.
As always, if you have doubts about the safety of this or any software, don't install it.

What software are you using that is showing this to be a virus? It may be good information to know which AV solution is causing false positives.

I'm not overly bothered that he posted the above comment, since I know of at least one AV programs that do bring up a false positive with this program, and can understand why he decided to say that. Still, its a bit over the top to go saying "it's a virus, don't download it" when 99% of people haven't had an issue with security at all.
Can I confirm, butchro which anti-virus software you are using? If it's Norton, the high level of security they use means it gives you a warning if you download software from an uncertified (me) source.

And here's the virus total scan results:
