i have a problem, what would you do?

i asked on the forums to have a plugin designed.
i wanted it enough to offer to pay someone to do it.

someone took me up on my offer and asked that i pay him 25 pounds up front.
i sent him the 25 pounds and he started designing this plugin
he is now ignoring all of my pm's and from his profile i can see that he's been online almost every day answering other topics.

so, should i name and shame?

 

You unfortunately are a victim of the most common variety of internet crime...I would report him in whatever capacity you can. Definitely on whatever forum you found him on - and however you paid him I would report him on that website (paypal claim, etc)

 

What you should've done is payed half in the beginning and the other half after he was done, but now you messed up. I would report him, like @chronopolis said.

 

I'd say name him and let him defend himself if he so wishes. Let the community excommunicate him if they believe you over him.

I doubt there's much to be done beyond that, given I doubt you had any sort of signed contract. You should never give money to someone for work without some sort of formalized, provable agreement, lest you're willing to give up the money if it goes south as it did here.
