[FUN] WaterMonster v1.2 - Create a monster in your server's seas [1317]

    WaterMonster - Create a monster in your server's seas
    Version: 1.2

    This plugin creates a water monster. The monster can only be seen by the depression it makes in the water and its splashing. It is invincible, but touching it causes damage to players and mobs.

    There is only one monster per server, which is always located within 100 blocks of a player (it despawns if it leaves this range). If the monster has despawned, then it will respawn nearby another player.

    Note: Credit for the idea of a water monster comes from Frictional Games's Amnesia: The Dark Descent

    • Avoids harming passive mobs (so it doesn't kill them all in 1.8).
    • Attacks players and hostile mobs.
    • Can outrun players

    i have one question... shouldn't the monster bulge the water up where it moves? instead of making air? if it bulged up that would seem a bit scarier i think... and would make a bit more sense, idk.

    far as i know... this is based on the Amnesia: the dark descent water monster, which looks like something is stepping in the water, thus making a hole in the water wud make it look like that o:
    as for the bulge up.. i think it would also cause te monster to easily grief ur shores ._. spilling water evrywhere

    well it would just have runoff onto the shore and go away when the monster leaves? Correct

    I thought the sunk-in look looked better... and was more stealthy. Also, there is no way to change the height that it works at without editing the code and recompiling -- if I ever have time, I'll make some major changes that include a fix for the water level issue.

    To those that talked about bulging the water up, I'll point out that the water would not spill onto the shores. If it did, though, then there's a potential for it to erase torches/redstone/tracks/...

    I'm not familiar with HeroicDeath, and I don't see it using Bukkit's plugin search feature. Maybe; you should try it and see (on a test server, of course).

    When I have time, I'll probably port it over to Spout/Spoutcraft/SpoutPlugin.

    I likely won't have the time to do any more plugin development (including fixing this one), so sorry. If someone would like to take over, then go ahead and do so. Since I'm not around much, it might be hard to get control of the existing project, but you could make a new one (besides, it needs a total rewrite... it's not long, but the code's ugly (I'm new to Java, and it shows)).

    I might take over development at some point. I've updated a few plugins to 1.2 already, and I've always wanted to rework this with some kind of a spawn chance. I'm a beginner so if anyone more competent wants to step in, feel free. If I ever finish anything, I'll post something here.

    I'm not sure if this is implemented but is it possible for the monster not to hurt you if you are riding on a boat? This way people actually use boats more often xD. Also is it possible to only have the monster in a certain world in the server?

    I don't think this works anymore...

    My plans, were I to take the time to rewrite it (it needs a total rewrite), would be to make those configurable.
