Inactive [FUN/MECH]MobCatcher v3.0.1 - Capture mobs and get spawn eggs legitimately[1.4.2-R0.2]

    Yeah, I'm actually waiting on a couple bug fixes in CB 1.2.3-RO.2 before I can actually get to work on any of the spawner stuff. But, I'm not sure how long its going to be.

    It's kinda a big project, so make sure if you really want it to go my BukkitDev page and vote yes for the idea. Theres a poll on the right hand side.

    Can you perhaps make a config for disabling the throwing of eggs? The main use for the plugin is to gather spawn eggs on my server. I tried to use the antispawnegg plugin to disable people from spawning eggs because they could lose it and never make a spawner out of it. Throwing the egg bypasses the antispawnegg plugin. I use the plugin complementary to creaturebox for the making of spawners. I am interested in what you have in store for spawner ideas because I'm sure it will be better than bridging between the two plugins.

    I've released v2.6, which has both config and permissions options for disabling throwing. Sorry about that, but once the egg is an item entity, I have to spawn it with just basic code, rather than letting the spawn egg actually do it, thats why your other plugins aren't catching it.

    And as for spawners, basically the idea that I've got is to add a recipe that would allow you to craft them and when you do, it would transfer the data from the egg to the spawner. So whatever you had saved to that egg (color, age, etc.) would now be saved to that spawner when you placed it. Its not a full fledged idea yet, so, I'm still open to any input. I know theres gonna be a couple little things that need to be added in order for spawners to work (making sure they can be picked back up, etc.). I'm not exactly sure how I'm gonna do it, but its probably gonna have to have another .dat file.

    Anyways, make sure you vote yes on the poll on my bukkitDev. I'm trying to figure out how many people would actually use this before I put all the work in.

    My only suggestion is to make sure each spawner has a separate perm to for crafting. I'd look at creaturebox and maybe grab some ideas from that.

    Ive used this Plugin (it is Awesome btw) and i was thinking maybe you should add so that the mobs you capture can fight for you (Like Pokemon :p) or maybe you can make a completely different plugin. :) but i think you should do the first idea.

    Yeah, i've been toying with the idea of making all mobs you spawn not hostile to you, just havent gotten around to it.

    Oh ok if you have spare time i suggest you work on that, this will be the most popular Plugin plus you should see if you can combine it with interactive NPC's, if you can.

    Actually, this is just a story, lol, I actually worked on a version a couple weeks ago that allowed you to capture players. But it was so hackish that it wasnt worth it. Basically, if you hit a player with an egg, i stopped sending their packets to all game clients, so that they turned invisible. Then I set them as the passenger of the captor. But then I also had to add a bunch of listeners to make sure captured players couldn't hit anyone or throw things, etc. It made the plugin a lot more cumbersome, and I didn't really see the point for such a purely novelty idea. Also, there were just way to many loose ends, such as players logging off while they are invisible so it wasn't really a practical idea, just something I thought would be funny.

    If I did anything like that, it would likely be a separate plugin.

    I feel like if i just added that to this plugin, it would kinda be half assed, lol

    lol ok but what u should really focus on is the Mobs being able to attack
    like wolves for example, if u hit a mob the wolf will go and attack the mob u hit, something like that and the mobs you capture

    So basically, what your wanting is any mob you spawn to have most of the same behaviors as a tamed wolf? Following you around, defending you if your attacked, etc?

    hm.

    I don't really think this is within the scope of this plugin. Also, I've not looked, but I would think there's probably already plugins that do this.

    MobCatcher is more about adding the ability to transport and trade mobs, I don't feel like it would be a good idea to alter the way the mobs actually behave. I want MobCatcher to have the most universal application as possible, so it can be used in many different contexts, as far as different servers are concerned. I feel like adding something this far away from the original scope of the plugin would alienate some servers that already have some of these features through different plugins. Basically, I want MobCatcher to be able to work along side any other mob-related plugins, so it needs to stay more specialized, but do a really good job, as opposed to dabbling in a couple different things but not necessarily doing as good of a job as an entire plugin would do.

    Well can you make a plugin called..... MobPartner? still with the same features as MobCatcher but with the features ive been pitching in about being able to protect and attack for u

    Hm... Yeah, tho if he does update it, there's no way I could do as good of a job as Fullwall, lol

    But regardless, it would be a long time until I could get around to that.

    Any suggestions for the current plugin?

    hmmm a storage chest for them? so u can trad them even when the players r not online. (and whats FullWall)

    Fullwall is the author of MonsterTamer, as well as one of the authors of Citizens. Really smart guy, way better programmer than myself.

    Again, this is an idea that should be handled by a different plugin. There are tons of shop plugins out there (whether theyre sign based, or chest based), that's not something I really need to add. MOST shop plugins have updated to make sure enchantments stay on whatever item was for sale, so you could sell spawn eggs with MobCatcher data and they would still work for whoever bought them.

    i tested it 20 times, using this manual ..

    probably conflict with other plugin?
    i run ChestShop.

    Nope, i disabled ChestShop,
    still not work.

    I've not ever had anyone have any issues with this, so I assume its conflicting with something else.

    You could try running it without any other plugins and see if it works then. The thing is tho, if its a conflict with another plugin, I likely can't fix it.

    it still not work, i removed 15 other plugins.
    but it should work with this basics.

    i found out what plugin causes the conflict
    it is Essentials GroupManager

    can you fix that it work with GroupManager?
    i really need the protection, otherwise i have to remove that nice plugin
