I am currently needing a devevloper for my server but i can find none. So i just thought if i can make plugins myself. Currently i just want to make new abilities for a plugin called BukkitGames <-- its a hunger games plugin with kits. I know the BASICS of java but not all. I design images logos and themes using photoshop and make minecraft wallpapers with cinema 4d and after effects and make animations with it and premiere pro. I also use photoshop to make minecraft drawings for wallpapers. I have learned some java from watching videos on how to make minecraft mods and have made some successful mods. (before, i dont know anything about coding) So i wonder if i can also learn more java and code a plugin or is it harder than making a minecraft mod. I was thinking to decompile some open source plugins and learn from them. If anyone can teach me that would be great :)

It's not that hard really :)
Bukkit has a great API you can just hook into, allowing most things to be done with ease.

More than knowing Java, you need to have the mindset of a programmer. Knowing the language won't get you very far if you don't know how to develop.

Thats not true... i can now code simple plugins with little knowledge of java with the help of tutorial videos

That's because the tutorial is showing you exactly what to do. You're not actually pulling that code out of your head, you're getting it from a video.

You still need to know how to put it all together. If you don't, you're going to end up with a bad plugin and a lot of spaghetti code.

The reason I said it is because your title is asking whether you need to know java to make plugins, and I was pointing out that I don't know much and I can make plugins that people want to download.
    No.

So "I know shit all java" means u know little java?

In Australia, when someone says "shit all" it means like barely any (e.g. I know shit all C++ AKA I know barely any C++ ) Catch my drift?
