Disable Level Saving Bad idea or good?

    while testing, I noticed my server used a lot less CPU usage when terrain-saving is disabled (save-off)...

    Is there any reason to have it on if I'm using a plugin that automatically backs my server up and zips it to a folder?

    upon many searches I had a hard time finding detailed information on what Terrain-Saving does, and why i need it.

    Sorry if this has been answered before, I searched around for about an hour, but "disable Save" "save-off" and Terrain Saving bring up alot of server logs that clutter things up... Im going to continue searching, but any info you have would be great.

    additonal info: my main map is over 500mb then i have skydemension (simpleskylands) and the nether

    well... Just got this error while running save-off... dont know if its related? but ive never seen it before...

    froze the server and i had to reload.... Server may have a memory leak... either Minecraft, Bukkit or RAM going BAD
