Make sure you are using the latest dev build of Spout if you are using a dev build of CraftBukkit for 1.0.0. You should keep to the latest build whenever you do updates for dev builds as well. http://spout.in/plugindev

Why cant we use the new height in multiplayer when it works in single ?

Question, used a higher map limit in singleplayer, is there a way by now to use it in multiplay ?
And how do normal clients react to that height limit ?

Because @Afforess hasn't added it to multiplayer yet as he'd like to make it as a standalone plugin.

What about people with portable games and without internet that play singleplayer ?

Still, this is not "not supporting non-premium", this is intentionally banning non-premium players from using this... does Notch give you a share of the profits ? =)

I run a mixed mode server so I also noticed it's not simple to manually install SpoutCraft anymore. It's still possible and all the files necessary are readily available. Manual installation is even officially explained in one of the previous posts (but remember not officially supported).

It doesn't seem like the change was made intentionally to ban non-premium players. All I see is that they streamlined the download and update process with the launcher. All the files are separate now so that players don't have to download 9mb for every update. Now it's only about a 2mb download each update.

The argument of not having internet won't hold much water because you need internet access to download SpoutCraft in the first place. Before starting that initial download, you just have to tick remember password and any time you run SpoutCraft in the future without internet access (or if authentication is down), you'll be prompted to play in offline mode.

IMO, repeated comments about not making SpoutCraft more pirate friendly is probably just going to motivate the team to really implement some anti-piracy measures.

I was talking in general, the internet thing I heard from someone, I dunno, never tried playing without internet, I find it booring in singleplayer.
Well, my impression on that comment I quoted before looked intentional, don't really care tough :p

I am curious about that manual install tough, I also run a small private mixed server once in a while with some friends but not everybody has an account and they said the same thing about black screen and not loading.

We still try to use the milestones, but things have been unstable lately due to most of the half of the team finishing up with school/college for the year and bug fixing consuming time. We'll be trying to keep the milestones accurate, but they are really ROUGH estimates right now.

We offer an offline mode already if you'd already authed at least once and used the "Remember Me" option on the our launcher. Our launcher also has a portable mode, so you could take it with you if you wanted if you installed it to something such as a flash drive.

Why should we support non-premium players? We are following the terms of Minecraft and Mojang. There is no reason for us to offer an easy means for piracy.

We never supported non-premium players, the old method of bundling Spoutcraft just allowed for manual installs easily. The new system with the launcher is to reduce the load on the mirrors by cutting the size of downloads to at least 1/3 of the original therefore saving space, bandwidth, and time. Before you were downloading all the libraries that we use which accounted for a lot of the size and those rarely change. The new launcher builds only download updates to each jar as needed.

What bukkit build should I use for Spout? I'm trying to use the 1.0.0 ones and it keeps failing and shutting down my server. It worked before with the 1.0.0 Builds but recently it has not been.

For Spoutcraft addons of course. ;)
It's for enabling/disabling/installing and viewing info about them.

@Wulfspider , I have a question about map height and normal clients.

How will this be handled by the non-spoutcraft client? Let's say I have a tower higher than the normal limit, and several people using SpoutCraft building about 128. Then a normal player joins and-

Yeah... what happens next? Does he see the blocks, does he crash, can he walk up there and join them?

Normal clients should be able to move around in the higher area, but not able to build or do anything there as far as I know.

It actually says that in your console log or by using the "spout version" command?
I'm using the CraftBukkit 1572 and 633 right now with no problems.

If you are using any Spout plugins with it right now, they are likely broken as we refactored things a lot and will be doing more soon.

Manual installs are not supported, but to do so you'd have to combine the contents of all 7 lib jars from our Spoutcraft repo and the latest Spoutcraft jar into a clean minecraft.jar and delete the META-INF folder. You'd have to do this for every updated build you want to go to with a clean minecraft.jar each time.

You'd be better off using our launcher.

What build of Spout are you using?

As far as I know. @Afforess knows more about it.
