That suggests a degree of laziness. How about phrasing it in a more constructive manner?

It sounds like they were pretty burned out. They did a lot of good work.

If you follow the build process listed above, you will get an unofficial server file called craftbukkit 1.8 which will run bukkit plugins, let players use 1.8 clients, and supports all 1.8 features (outside of some uncommon bugs which are mostly addressed quickly).

The peak number of minecraft players is now up to 560k (a new record just a few days ago on the 24th).

Spigot is up to 70k servers serving 266,000 users.
Spigot 1.8 is up to 22k servers now (up from 14k about 3 weeks ago). It's feature complete, fully supports minecraft 1.8, remaining bugs are edge cases, and most major plugins have been converted. Roughly 500 new servers per day now (up from 250 in early january).

Since everyone who builds spigot 1.8 and craftbukkit 1.8 has a copy of all the source code on their build machine, a DMCA probably can't kill them at this point. And anyway, it looks more likely each day that Spigot's workaround is legal.

The current versions of craftbukkit 1.8 and spigot 1.8 are good enough to get everyone to Minecraft 1.9 in any case.

@Zanecdavis The developers of Spigot have made a fork of Bukkit and updated it to 1.8. This includes CraftBukkit and Spigot.
