Block in the way of zombie (/other mobs) path

Hello Bukkit!

I've spent a little bit researching this, and I am not sure if I'm going to have to do it the hard way..

Is there a way to check and see if the [custom] mob is walking into a block?

Pretty much what I am doing is having the zombie break said block (I already know how to do this, please don't elaborate on that part).

I know that I could continuously check and see if there is a block within 1 block of the zombie on the x and z planes, but I can't convince myself that it's the most efficient way.
