1.2.5 Common Error. Any explanations?

  1. so.. I've been working on a server, hosted off my computer using 1.2.4. I am the only one who currently plays on the server. The only plugins I use are Worldedit, Worldguard (as of yesterday), and Spout.

If I use 1.2.4 my server runs flawlessly. However, when I use 1.2.5 bukkitcraft I get the whole Warning! Can't keep up! error in my log. My computer can keep up, and my plugins are up to date. Switching back to 1.2.4 remedies the situation.

Now, I've seen multiple people talking about this, but does anyone have a fix or an explanation? Is this being addressed by the dev's? Everyone just says 'There's something wrong with your plugin's, ram, blah blah", when this is not the case, I've run the server with no plugins and the same thing happens.

Install essentials if you don't have it already and run the " gc " command in the console, and post the output here.

  3. hmm...

    Maximum Memory - 989
    Allocated Memory - 989
    Free Memory - 799
    world - 726 chunks, 1 entity

You appear to have modified the output, please run the command in your server console and copy it EXACTLY by selecting it and using ctrl+c, or extract it from your server.log file after running it in the console.

Are WE, WG and Spout the latest versions? go to http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods and search for updates.

  5. I don't know what you mean by modify.. but that's what it said when I did it via in-game. Here ya go..

That output seems fine and lack of RAM shouldn't be causing the problems.

Are WorldEdit, WorldGuard and Spout definitely the only plugins you have?
And are they up to date? (See my previous reply for a link)

  7. just redownloaded them all..

    Essentials 2.9.1
    Worldedit 5.3
    Worldguard 5.5.2
    SpoutPlugin RB #1093..

    here goes nothing..

Edit: still got the error. Going to try to run server again with NO plugins

Still get the error with no plugins.

That's just the "pay attention to me! I'm lonely!" message. It fires if there's the tiniest delay in processing things, which will happen regularly on any server. If it's spamming your console to the point you can't even keep up with other messages in console like chat, then there's an issue.

  9. The error pops up every 2-3 seconds. Like I said, on 1.2.4 I never saw the error. I used to run a server before 1.0, back before enchantment tables and stuff.. and I am quite familiar with this error.

I've seen multiple people post about seeing this error after updating to 1.2.5, even with no plugins. And something has to be up in the 1.2.5 code or something.

It's quite annoying to see that error every 2-3 seconds, as I like to watch the server log live while I play..

Do you know what the server specs are? E.g. processor speed?

If it's your computer, you should be able to find this information on a mac by going to the apple button (top-left) and clicking About This Mac.

On windows, hold down the windows flag key and pause-break at the same time

On Linux, open a terminal and run "cat /proc/cpuinfo"

  11. idk man, I got 6 gb of ram, an AMD (A8 Vision or something) quad core. I ran this server on a LAN (1.2.4) with 4-5 people, from this computer, and it worked fine, we were all doing massive world-edits also. The computer is also brand new, aka only thing it runs is the server, and spoutcraft. It's very quick, nothing is bogging it down.

Simply put, it runs fine on 1.2.4 with no plugins. On 1.2.5, again with no plugins, it gives me the error.. every 2-3 seconds. I'm not the only one.

Stop your server, delete or backup your server.log file (make sure there's no file called server.log in your server folder), start your server, when it's started type "reload" into the console and run it, stop your server after the reload.

Upload the contents of your newly generated server.log file to pastebin.com and link us to it.

1.2.5 is reported by some to be more cpu heavy than 1.2.4. If your server was on the edge of running smoothly, then in 1.2.5 it may have fallen into slowville.

What start script are you using to run your server? Please post the contents of it.

  16. Echo OFF
    SET BINDIR=%~dp0
    CD /D "%BINDIR%"
    "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xms1024M -Xmx1024M -jar craftbukkit.jar
    PAUSE

so if I get it hosted.. it's not going to do that?

You could try hosting it with LethalDrive.com, it would be $20/month for 1024MB of RAM.

The server I administrate is hosted with LethalDrive and we have very few problems.

  18. I don't quite understand how my computer was "edge of running smoothly".. (it was running perfectly smooth) would cause this, especially when my CPU usage is 25% with the server and spoutcraft running.

You'll have to hope TnT or some other bukkit staff member who knows the inner workings of bukkit finds this post, try tagging them in a reply.

But it really seems more of a system spec issue then a problem with bukkit.

  20. I mean, I've stumbled upon a few threads, exactly like this...

I just really do not want to go and host my server now, and see that it might do the same thing... I have over a months worth of work to do yet before I was planning on hosting.. and don't want to pay server fees quite yet.

Thanks for the help, I'll check the thread if you think of anything else

    Also..

When I play on the server, with the error message going off.. it seems to run just fine.

I tried looking for plugins to suppress the Can't Keep Up log entries but all the ones I could find are inactive/abandoned.

The issue has been further narrowed down to being build 2136 that causes more CPU usage. Basically, its the fix that stops mobs clipping through walls causes more CPU load.

I've asked the bleeding geniuses to look it over and try to squeeze out some more efficient ways to accomplish the same result. In the meantime, since a 1.2.4 server is compatible with 1.2.5 clients, you can use the old version for now. However, I must stress that this is how things are for now.

  23. Thank you TNT. That makes more sense. I knew something was different with bukkit ;]

  25. Just thought I'd add that turning off mob/animal spawning doesn't help... I'm sure the smart guys already know.

Please can you set this to solved using the instructions in my last reply?

    Thanks.
