I'm sure somebody is just going to tell me to read the fine manual... But there's an awful lot of manuals out there, and I'm having a hard time finding the information I'm looking for. So I'm going to ask here, and maybe somebody can point me in the right direction

I'm new to running a Minecraft server. Right now I've just got a little world for my wife and I. We've got monsters turned off and we're breaking out our beds to skip the night. And, of course, the Nether doesn't work.

What I'd like to do is set up a server so that I've still got our current/old world with no monsters, and maybe make it permanently daylight. And then I'd like to make the Nether work, complete with monsters.

Is this possible? If so, which plug-ins am I looking for? Looks like Nethergate might do it for the Nether... But what about enabling monsters in the Nether and not in the normal world? And what about freezing time?

Any help/direction you can give would be greatly appreciated.

For running nether, you may look into MultiVerse, it's what I use to keep separate worlds, and you can designate whether there are mobs or not. There's a plugin for extended day, and it might be called that, I'm not sure. I like the night time for the mobs, but I have the General plugin installed, so I can /time day if I need it to be day.

I haven't tested Nethergate recently. There are a few plugins for Nether but the lack of red fog left me staring out at a starry night sky, so I've put off testing it for now.

Time can also be controlled via plugins...

    1. You can move your SP world into your server folder.
    2. Several plugins let you go to the nether.
    3. A few plugins will let you spawn monsters in the nether but leave them out of the normal world. They are, however, in need of updating for the recommended build.
    4. Freezing time is a maybe. properTime can speed up and slow down time, but I'm not sure how well it would work for freezing it. However, there are plugins that will, with a command, let you set the time as you want.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the advice.

I downloaded Bukkit and got it up and running.

Installed TimeShift, and managed to freeze time on our normal world. Works like a charm.

I played around with Nethergate a bit... And it generally works... Stepping through a portal will take me to the Nether, complete with monsters. But the teleport process seems to be a bit buggy. It isn't creating a return portal on the other side, and I keep winding up in some horribly inconvenient location... Like rapidly plummeting through empty air into a giant lake of lava. Or stuck in a tiny, pitch black cave somewhere. So, for now, that bit is still in testing.

Very cool stuff though. Thanks for the help!
