Okay because its impossible for me to setup a server on mac, i downloaded windows on a mac.

I setup my server using the automatic server downloader, and I am having a problem getting my IP correct. No matter what I change (and save) it too in server.proporties - It comes up as:

    Starting minecraft server version 1.1
    Loading properties
    Starting Miencraft server on *:25565
This server is running Craftbukkit version git-Bukkit-1.0.1-R1-79-g241b6f1-b1772jnks

Why does it come up as a "*" in starting server and how can i fix it?

It's actually better if it comes with "*" so if your IP changes you don't have to manually update the config. So all you need to do is Port Forward if you haven't. Don't worry your all good.

Thanks for the response. That solves that question. However:

The internet im using is not my own, its part of my apartment complex. Will I not be able to really port forward? If its possible, what steps would I need to do? (Sorry im clueless)

You can use Hamachi and not port forward. There are quite alot of people that use it. You create a Network ID and a Password. Then you give you people the Network ID, Password and the IP and they join easily in seconds. I have never used Hamachi Though I can easily research to help you more on your situation.

Here is a guide to set up a Hamachi server:
    http://www.syshacks.com/showthread.php/4501-How-To-Setup-A-Hamachi-Server-complete-guide
It's a very ugly wall of writing.

IF YOU WANT TO PORT FORWARD:
If you want to port forward I'm not sure if you can follow these steps:

    1. Go to Start>Run> and type "CMD"
    2. You'll get a black window so type "ipconfig"
    3. scroll until you find "DEFAULT GATEWAY" and next to it will be a number E.G: 192.168. **
    4. Enter that in your browser.
    5. It's going to ask you to log in if not your good.
    6. If you were to sign in type "admin" username and "admin" for the password
    7. Once your in the router find "port forwarding" or game sharing it all depends.
    8. Then google how you port forward. Every router is different.

I was hoping to make this server public (or atleast white-list) So the other person must have Hamachi also in order to access it then I assume instead of automatically connecting?

Hamachi would be great for a group of small friends, however I was hoping to start up a larger server. Thoughts?

Lol.. Alot of people use Hamachi. So all you need to do is post your hamachi details everywhere so people know your server. It's exactly as spreading the IP but instead you type more text.
P.S: Read my last reply I edited and added how to Port Forward. I'll keep helping you on this until you succeed.
