While your logic makes sense, it still is piracy, and even if it is 1% better it's still not justified.

I agree it's not justified, but the problem stays that if you start fighting piracy, the only people you are hurting are your own customers. Examples:

EA introduces origin: People pirate the game because the pirated version doesn't have origin.
Any random movie with lots of FBI piracy is a crime commercials: People pirate because then, the film starts when you start it. No commercials what so ever.
Ubisoft introduces max amount of installation and constant internet connection required: Pirated version can be installed as many times as I want and doesn't require constant internet connection.

Company's need to offer more in the bought version ( like it used to be, pirated video's were crappy quality, games were full off bugs ), but now, the pirated version offers better quality and service than the paid one. And they wonder why we pirate.

I bought Battlefield 3 and pirated it anyway, just to get rid of origin. Does that make me a pirate like any other? I don't know. What I do know is that I'm enjoying battlefield more than with the version EA shipped.

You people also seem to forget that Minecraft is aimed at kids, and not all kids can buy it. The server I used to run was offline mode, however I bought the game for myself pre-alpha, and for my co-admin when we set the server up. Most of our players were his friends, who are Singaporean and have very strict parents, thus couldn't buy it. Even he couldn't buy it, but could buy all the server resources he wanted.

If Notch didn't want people pirating his game, he'd remove it. He's a part of the Swedish Pirate Party and as stated before, he'd rather people pirated it rather than not have it at all.

    See these links:

Minecraft is doing just fine with the pirates. Get over yourselves.

What the fuck are you on about? It's vanilla functionality.

Thank you, someone who isn't partially retarded.

Most plugins I develop need multiple useres online and I usualy make changes every few min and reload the server so its unrelistic to get actually players to test. And because I don't want to be broke I just use cracked client useres to test :D

THIS is got to be the most agreeable point in the thread (and in the whole discussion imo). People will pirate no matter what...it will happen. But we have to put up with people bitching and whining they are being h@x0red and its not working and wah wah wah....lock those threads up. You take the risk, you go the offline route, live with the extra set of conditions you have to follow. That's all there is to it.

I think that is the sole responsibility of Bukkit is to keep those threads sealed up. Offline has a purpose...whether or not people abuse it is their own vendetta and they will either profit or pay as a result of it. We just don't need to hear about their woes after the fact.

Wrong, even Mojang's MineCraft_Server.exe includes the online/offline setting.
Isocadia, excellent view actually, it actually won me over to buy my own copy, but my friends play pirated, sadly.
