I've been running my server in offline-mode recently, and although it is great that we can still get on with minecraft.net down, it isn't going to be so great soon when I go public with it and I take it off offline-mode. I searched the forums and couldn't find anything like it, so I'm posting here. Would it be hard to make a simple plugin that can check (ping maybe?) the Minecraft login servers every 1/5/10 minutes, and announce in the chat when they go down, and also when they come back up? This would be nice if there is a group working together, and the login servers go down, so that they know not to go offline and come back for any reason. I'd make it myself, but I don't know any Java (yet). Also, instead of checking every 5 or 10 minutes, there could be a command like '/checklogin' or something that would do it on command. This shouldn't be too hard since there is no need for permissions, but someone would need to get the IP/host of the login servers to check against. Thoughts?
If it helps, Edward Hand gave this to me in another thread: URL is: http://www.minecraft.net/game/checkserver.jsp?user=USERNAME&serverID=SERVERID IP address of that is currently: 50.16.203.217 Thanks for trying!
Base functionality is complete. Companion plugins are on the way, unless someone beats me. http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/admin-dev-minecraftcheck-v1-0-check-minecraft-net-status-440.6324
