java.io.IOException: Bad packet id 254

Hey, this always pops up when I load up my server and at random times when it is up, it also laggs the hell out of the server and players disconnect;

Some silly person with the 1.8 pre release is trying to connect.

 

and they can break the server when try to connected with 1.8 pre-release?

 

Doesn't break anything for me. Not even any lag.

I'm going to assume this is accurate, and thank you for explaining it to us.

 

If anyone cares, it's actually because someone has added your server to their server list. That packet is the "ping" packet checking if your server is online.

but I haven't ever gotten the bad packet id error until yesterday...

 

Well the 1.8 craftbukkit is almost updated for 1.8 so I don't think we need to worry about it anymore

 

This is caused by adding your server to a server list as nisovin said, not 1.8 Prerelease. That would show and Outdated error.

 

Hmm... but no one can connect to my server with this on, even with 1.7.3...

 

I stand corrected. That actually makes a lot more sense.

 

To clarify, I'm talking about the server list that comes with the 1.8 client, not a random internet server list. So it is caused by 1.8, but because of the server list, not because people are trying to connect.

 

I have this same problem but it is when i try to connect not someone else

 

I've always had this problem, and dont know how to fix it. It seems to happen on random ip adresses with random ports and random id's, but mostly on id 71.

 

It's happening to me as well, i have no idea how to stop it from happening, i don't know what the 1.8 and 1.7 thing is, someone please help.

Have you any idea how to fix it, if you have worked it out, can you reply to me with an explanation. I don't understand anything that's been said in this forum, thanks.
