BukkitDev is the missing link in the project management chain prevalent in the Minecraft community. The popular solution of making use of forum software - something designed specifically for single-threaded discussion - leaves developers painfully scavenging through threads made up of hundreds of pages simply to get to that one bug report you finally addressed. It is all very tedious and time-consuming; time lost that could be better spent doing what you love - bringing to life those mad, awesome ideas you have running around in your head. With BukkitDev, each project has their own mini-community and tools that developers are free to moderate and make use of; per-project issue trackers and forums are just a few of the advantages BukkitDev has over using a traditional forum based solution.

As detailed below, BukkitDev provides you with a complete project management solution that makes maintaining and updating your project a breeze. While many of the things BukkitDev has to offer were what we planned Fill to eventually be, there is no way we would be able to achieve the level of maturity and polish that BukkitDev currently has without the support and backing we now have from Curse. Moving forward, with the support of Curse, we are able to provide the community with some much-needed resources and support that we simply could not do alone. Thanks to Curse's support, we can now confidently provide stable, long lasting download hosting to every project within the community and since this takes advantage of the extensive and powerful Curse.com distribution platform, the reach and exposure your projects have will increase significantly. Since BukkitDev makes use of the Curse.com platform, your Bukkit community accounts won't work - you will have to use Curse accounts instead.

The Bukkit Project has been about giving the community what they need from day one and with Curse backing the project, we're now provided with a unique opportunity to make that happen. With the help of Curse we've been in active discussion and working closely with Mojang to help them with testing and provide us with the ability to have updates ready shortly after a Minecraft update goes live, reducing the amount of downtime the community run servers face to virtually no time at all, allowing you to experience the full update in your own time and not ours.

Looking toward the future, the Bukkit Project hopes to work with Mojang and Curse to continue to provide the Minecraft community with the tools they need to continue to make magic happen. As a first step, we're offering the BukkitDev service to client modders to help manage and promote their project just as efficiently as server modders can. We hope to expand this service in the future by exploring the possibility of providing a central client mod base with the cooperation and support of Mojang.

Other improvements over our current implementation for plugin releases:
    • Multiple authors per project with permissions handling (for example, you can have a Project Manager, Project Owner, Documenter, Translator, etc).
    • Per-project subscriptions so people interested in your project can follow its progress.
    • Curse provided hosting for your downloads
    • Extra exposure through Curse.com, a high traffic content hub for Minecraft, as well as other games.
While it is still a little rough on the edges, both Curse and Bukkit are committed to providing the Minecraft community with the best solution we can offer developers to make sharing, managing and supporting their projects as smooth as possible. Please feel free to get your project up and running on BukkitDev (http://dev.bukkit.org) and let us know what you think of the new system (please report issues you have with the site here: http://www.curseforge.com/projects/curseforge/tickets/)!

If all goes well, we hope to have this new site up and running in place of the unwieldy forum solution we currently employ as soon as possible. Once the majority of the active projects within the community have moved over, we'll be pushing towards phasing out our temporary forum solution.

    It's here: http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/se...tation-of-various-flaws-bugs-in-mc-1060.4523/

I came back from holiday yesterday and have to work myself into this new curse/dev-bukkit thing now. That's why you won't find it there (yet).

http://plugins.bukkit.org was updated to use BukkitDev yesterday. I don't see how it could be any more difficult to search for plugins than it was before.

Try searching bukkitdev. If no results.
Try searching forums. If no results.
    Wait a few hours.
Repeat. <---- shouldn't ever reach this point.

    Lol.

Will anything be done about the every-file-needing-approval rule?

    iPhysX

    Why?
Every file needed approval on here, but it's faster approval on BukkitDev!

Huh? I thought every project needed initial approval, but once that was done most of the time somebody just linked to the download in the OP and that was that.

I think you are correct about every project needing initial approval, but really, using submissions not many people viewed most plugins until they were moved into releases so its pretty similar in my opinion :D

it seems to be a bit buggy:
when i go to the bukkit-dev page, i'm not logged in
    i hit login, nothing happens
i click on server-mods, i'm still not logged in
i click on client-mods i'm finaly logged in
i click back on server-mods i'm not anymore logged in etc.

    I think you are misunderstanding:
Files never needed approval here! Project submissions did, but people could (if they wanted to) still see the project before they were approved.
Now, both when you start the project (Project submission) needs approval, and people CAN'T see the project while waiting for approval. At the same time, everytime a developer makes an update and updates their plugin (even for minor quick bug fixes) we need to await several hours before the files are approved. So even after the project has been approved, we still need approval for ALL files uploaded. At least if you want to use the download button.
You can then argue that you can just insert a download link for a dropbox or whatever in the post, BUT the project can't be in "Release" status unless there is an approved file. So if want the external download link you still need the internal downloadable file. So you will suddenly have a external download that is up to date, and an internal download that is not up to date until approved.
The approval process is one of the worst things that is happening to this community on BukkitDev for developers. And the approval process WILL (most likely) NOT be changed, since it's part of Curse Policy.

  14. Tried on IE, firefox and chrome, all getting "Bad request".

    Any ideas?

Bad request is username taken ;)

When i try to register, with my username its stands: Bad Request :(

  17. Either the developers of this are retards and love adding silly error messages, or there just plain daft.

Nah, ive tried with several usernames and all saying "Bad Request"

  18. This means that your internet service provider has not received notification of the DNS update. I'd consider finding a better provider if it is taking this long.

Could I see the math you used to get that percentage?

Also, I hope you realize 4294967296 files is a lot. 1970 discussions in plugin releases right now. Even if every plugin had 50 updates, that's only 98500 files.

EDIT by Moderator: merged posts, please use the edit button instead of double posting.

It's birthday problem and a bad memory. 2.2 × 10^19 files will suffice for 50 % collision chance.

Well then we'll worry about that once we get to 22 trillion trillion files. And if we have every capable body on the planet manually accepting one upload per second, we should get there around 2100. :p

  21. Am I going to get any response at all about the "Bad request" message upon registering? This is pathetic, something what dosent work on three browsers - is something wrong and should be fixed asap.

XxFuNxX is already taken -_- :(

  23. My username was too...

  24. "Bad request" is actually "username taken" apparently.

    Yeah -_-

  26. I tried two usernames, now one is my name, so I cannot see how that would be taken.

Anyways, ive managed to get registered now, thank god.

Whats the approval times? (Took 1 week for a previous plugin unfortunately in plugin submissions).

Will we be able to subscribe/something like that?
If this is already possible, or someone has asked, I apologise. I havent time to search through the thead..
    Besides that, I love dev.bukkit!

There appears to be an issue with certain people not being able to register on the Bukkit Dev site and recieving this error.

For anyone that is still having the issue you will need to head over to http://www.curse.com instead and register there, once you've registered head back to http://dev.bukkit.org and login. We've reported the issue and hoping it gets resolved soon.

We're putting together a FAQ and Guide with answers to the most common questions to hopefully solve some of the teething problems with the new system.

Lastly - Sorry for the late reply but I was sleeping after a late night of handling things amongst the community.

what would be nice (besides from not doing this) would be the option to link your bukkit and your curse account, and you should be able to choose which username you want to use (maybe impossible though) and a stay logged in button

This is an excellent idea, and I believe they intend to do it, though I'm not entirely certain. Still, take a look beside Rigby's post above.
