I have tried time and time again to allow my friend to connect to my bukkit server using hamachi.
Every time he tries to connect he gets the same error: Connection timed out. We have no idea how to go any further from here.
    What I have already done:
Let hamachi through my firewall after download.
Changed the server ip to my hamachi ip
Had him join my hamachi network.
he tried to connect to the server.
    Connection timed out.
This is as far as we have gotten. If you can help, Please do.

Also I have craftbukkit build 1000

Try removing the server ip address from the server.properties file. And just to make sure, your friend is connecting to an address that starts with 5.blah.blah.balh:25565? If you have changed the port in the server.properties file, then you might be using a different port.

Sometimes, you don't need to add the port, but yes, you should add :25565 to the end of the IP

he does put the port after but still no connection with and without ip in server properties

also how would one make their own plugins?

    *NOTE: OFFTOPIC*
Actually, if you don't specify a port, Minecraft assumes the server uses the default port (25565), so no you don't. But whatever.

Making your own plugin requires Java knowledge, as well as learning how to use the Bukkit API. I recommend learning a bit of java, then reading this tutorial.

EDIT: Also, it might be a good idea to familiarize yourself with port forwarding if you want to make a plugin... If you can't learn port forwarding, you shouldn't be running a server.

I completely agree with both of @Banana937 's statements. Also, is your friend connecting to a 5.blah address or something else. Also, can you connect to the server. If so, through what IP address?

yes i can connect with 5.blah.blah my friend does 5.blah with and without ports but still cant connect

banana937 i would port forward its not even hard but my router at home doesn't work properly so i am not going that route and also it would be just me and my 3 friends on the server so im using hamachi

    i beat you banana

    hey wheres my signature?

    finally there it is haha

@CJIB nice way to artificially inflate your post count by randomly posting 5 comments on the same thread over the course of 8 minutes while nobody replies... and I still don't see your signature. It usually only pops up on the first comment you make per page.

Also, based on your statement (several comments above), it sounds to me like everything is working.

No. But if you have CraftBukkit 1060 and spout 1.01, you need to upgrade spout.

You could check your firewall settings again, too, maybe you did only allow LAN connections to minecraft? (It would be strange, though. Can you access file shares on each other's systems?)

PS: Setting up port forwarding may require to use a dyndns account and you need to secure minecraft. Using hamachi will usually allow all connected hosts to access all services on your system, which may be undesirable, too.

@7eggert i have craftbukkit 1000 and i just went to plugins today and downloaded spout and i dont really care about people that are connected accsessing services on my system because i trust my friends and the one who would mainly be playing on it dosent know much more about computers than logging on to gmail and minecraft and downloading mods

So you trust them to not get infected by e.g. the conficker worm that would write itself to your writable shares?

what type of virus protection you using.
    avg
    avast
    norton
    ect
some or all can have problems with minecraft and letting people connect
so if your not using your router cause its messed up are you running strait to your modem
and if so then you wont need hamachi

when he is connected to your hamachi group and is logging into your server have him type your ip instead of the hamachi ip.

to get your ip do theses steps.
    1.open start
2.click run or if vista/7 type in the search bar
    3.search for cmd
4.once cmd is open type ipconfig
    5.look for IPv4 Address

once you have the IPv4 Address have your friend connect with it and see if that helps

well im not exactly connected to the router because we have an apple airport express for wireless but i think the routers settings say that i have to be connected with ethernet to log on to it and thats when the problems start. also i dont have any security yet as this computer is fairly new and i havent downloaded any yet besides windows firewall and ive let minecraft, minecraft server, and logmein Hamachi through so far

@7eggert i took spout off the server because before i installed it i never had any problems logging on but after installing spout (the latest version) the server kept kicking me off with different messages:
    blahblahblahjavaexceptionblahblahreadtimedout or:
    end of stream

Port Forwarding on an Airport Express is easy, actually.

    a) Sorry, Spout 1.02 + CB 1060 works for me (Spout 1.01 didn't). Maybe it's a RAM issue and you need the amount of RAM assigned to the minecraft server? Look above for my start script to see the command line I use for my 8-GB-system.

    b) Most routers will virtually connect the LAN and the WLAN, so being on Airport/WLAN is as good as being on LAN. You should be able to find a setting to connect your MAC address to a specific IP. This may be needed if you set up a port forwarding to a specific IP. Some routers allow you to select a PC as the destination, you don't need to set a static IP then.

you might have to bind your ip to your computer and make it a static ip

What router do you have (we at least need a brand, but a model number would be great!)

This may help. The guy is in the same type of situation that you are in. Trying to host a game on his Airport Express from Windows.

He has an Airport Express -- he already said that.

I thought that was Apple only...but I could see having it for Windows, it would just be weird.

Airport Express's are routers. It doesn't matter what Operating System you use, a router is a router.

well its plugged in to a linksys se2500 5 port gigabit switch will your link still work? also i have windows 7 not xp

@Banana937 I looked at this entire thread and I believe that you are the only person who has mentioned anything about Airport Expresses leading me to believe that he never had one xD

As far as your Linksys Switch is concerned, follow the steps below:

    1) Press the windows key, type in CMD, and press enter
    2) Type "ipconfig" without the quotes
    3) Search through the list until you see something that starts with 192.blahblahblah (make sure that this is next to the field "Default Gateway"). 2 lines above it will be your "IPv4 Adress", also write that down for later.
    4) Open up the web browser of your choice (but I think that you can guess I would recommend Firefox) and type in that number that was next to "Default Gateway" in your address bar at the top (So instead of going to www.bukkit.org, you will pretend to go to 192.168.1.1)
    5) The username is probably admin and there probably is no password. If that doesn't work, try admin for the password.
    6) This is the part where you kinda need to help yourself. Find a tab (at the top) along the lines of Applications/Gaming/Port Forwarding/Port Triggering. If something asks for an application name, put anything (I recommend Minecraft). For the port, put 25565, and for the "forwarded IP address" (might be a little different), put your IP address (that you wrote down from step 3). If something mentions "protocol" such as UDP or TCP, put both. If you can't, then do this 2 times, 1 with UDP and the 2nd TCP. Then hit save. If you have any problems, a screen shot of the last step you get to would be really helpful.
