What is the best video capture tool that is free and can record me doing a Minecraft tutorial of sorts for usage of my plugin(s)?

Edit: What about free video editing software to add text? Or, should I just use YouTubes built in text system?

Sorry, I dont have much experience with this stuff.

Wtf. Why would you post this in plugin development? Wouldn't this be off topic?

For me, wtf doesn't mean much. To me it stands for "What the fork." Sorry about that.

You may want to look into "glc" it specifically for OpenGL programs. I also tried the ffmpeg approach but it killed my FPS, using glc I can get a constant 60 FPS.

    FRAPS!
    The best recording program :D

For basic video editing, check out

    Windows Live Movie Maker

Yup, Fraps ftw. It only doesn't use compression and stores in a raw AVI format, you definately need more than 300 gb space if you want to record multiple videos on one day. :)

I get no FPS loss, and that is on a GMA 4500MHD.

How are you running ffmpeg, the x11 capture method ?

The example method described in the thread I linked to. To lossless h264 encapsulated in a matroska.
