With spout, could it be possible to create a RAM cluster with the players on the server? Effectively having an unlimited amount of RAM, so lag would only be caused by the upload speed of the host computer.

I don't know how plausible this is, but thought it was a good idea. Thoughts?

You want to use client RAM as server RAM? Is that what you're saying? That would never work. RAM is very fast, and the internet is, by comparison, extremely slow. When I say extremely, I mean it. It's also not dependable. If a player disconnects unexpectedly, it would lose all the data that was stored on that client's RAM.

So how to them screensavers work; The ones where you are apparently helping some science lab analyse proteins and sh*t? :S

I don't think it would be wise to implement this at all to be honest. A lot WILL go wrong. You would also need a client mod and nobody really expresses any interest in creating a client mod for one plugin as it's a lot of work and consumes a lot of their own time. What if the player has a computer with limited RAM? You'd be cutting out of the RAM they are using to play Minecraft just to run your server which would in the end make it a bad experience for your players. Best option here is to get a server with more RAM.

Those programs are data critical - not time critical. They don't care if your computer takes an hour to process a "chunk" of data or a week - Minecraft on the other hand is time critical (it needs the answer right now, not in a day's time :D). This idea would also increase the bandwidth used (transferring data back and forth), effectively cancelling out your theorised lag benefits.

Nothing's worse than lag caused by slow internet
