I was just wondering, me and my friend have made a server on which we are both admins, but obviously only one person can actually run the server software on their pc, and edit the config.yml files, and install new plugins. I found a plugin to add ingame commands for config files, but is there any way for me to install new plugins on a server running on my friends pc? It would really help; I'd appreciate any advice.

    Thanks.

If you want to test plugins, why don't you run them on your computer? No need to access your friend's PC.

Thanks, but that's not really the answer I was looking for. I would still need to run every new plugin i should want to be implemented past him...

You could always link them using dropbox - palace the server in your dropbox folder and share it with your friend. That way it would get cynced after a min or two and then just run the /reload command

Then your friend would have to give you remote access to his PC, at least to the minecraft folder, not the entire machine of course.

Thanks so much- that's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. I couldn't even have thought of something better:)

Or hamachi, share the plugins folder, full access, and have a restart command plugin. Doesn't require your friend to log into dropbox every time. Course sharing your folder like always does incur the chances of someone you supposely trust putting unmentionables onto your computer.

Interesting; I wasn't aware you could do that with hamachi. It would be a bit more practical, as it's a hamachi server anyway. How would I go about doing this?

Your friend can also have a ftp server

I used Serv-U for FTP, works great. Your friend can then download the files, open them, edit them, save them, and upload em back. It's that simple :p

You could use some kind of logmein to control his computer. Of course, if you gets hacked, then so does he, but it works.

Hamachi essentially links your computers over the internet into a lan, as such the computer can be browsed through the windows (and possibly other os) network and view any shared folder as well as edit any folder with applicable settings. FTP also works for uploading/modifying/downloading files, though it'll require the server to run an ftp server, suppose it's the same amount of processes as hamachi, and equally secure/unsecure.

Why on earth hasn't anyone mentioned TeamViewer?
Use it. It is perfect for your needs. Is avalible to linux too.

It gives anyone that has the password the ability to transfer files, and remote control the server.

Thanks a lot for all the help guys. It looks like I'll be using dropbox from now on; it's just so painfully simple. Thanks again guys.
