I have been writing this permissions file for about 2 hours now, about every 10 minutes, it goes away from its neat and tidy formed setup to a sloppy 1 lined mess. I don't remember messing with notepad settings at all. But I don't understand why it keeps reverting back. Any ideas?

I have notepad++, should i use it to open all files instead of notepad?

Okay, well, next question, using Notepad++, how come, whenever I type something in. It turns up red. I don't have experience with it, but red generally means its wrong.

It just highlights based on the type of document, red normally means a number and thats not an issue. Make sure under Language you have YAML selected.

Definitely use Notepad ++ for everything that's not related to print. I use it for HTML/CSS/PhP/Javascript/Everything and everything that involves coding. you don't have to worry about it trying to convert things to strait text - It'll preserve spaces, tabs, all formatting. Also, in most cases it'll do color coding depending on the code you're using, and you can also configure it to show dots for spaces, very useful for yml files.

Depends what goes red, if it's a permission node... Every time you enter a permission node just start from all the way back in the line your writing your permission node is suppose to be printed

  7. How to fix the red text:
Click Settings then prefences then look for YAML then un-check use default value then change it to 2 then click replace by space DONE!
