Hey all, for this question I tried looking for a plugin and could not find one that did the job, so I am asking the fellow Server Admins for help.

I run a small 14 slot server for my friends, now they are in different time zones but the server is based in California. What I want to do is to have the server shut down the bukkit script, not the computer, and then about 4, 5, or 6 hours later start it up again. This would give my server some time to cool off from working the server program for 18 Hours at a time.

I am thinking this will have to be done via Cron Job, I know what it is but, if so, I would like some help getting it installed seeing as I am new to Ubuntu.

The server is running Ubuntu 11.04 and I want it to turn off at 10:05 P.M, and start up at 4 A.M the next day. I want it to be everyday.

Thanks in advance, and I will answer any questions.

I dont have my McMyAdmin updated because of permissions 3 issues, but I think this is possible with the server management.

I think you can set a off time, and a start time. It would keep your server (hardware) running too.

I saw that plugin, it looks great, don't get me wrong. I kind of want it to run on the computer itself, more then bukkit wise, just so that its not yet another plugin I have to update when a new bukkit is out.

Something that actually shuts down, waits, and then starts back up?

    Not sure.

Remote Toolkit is by far the best server restart plugin out there. It might be possible using it.

The actual Bukkit Script itself, not the computer.

When did I say anything about the computer?

Remote Toolkit will allow you to shut down the bukkit server.

However, the server really doesn't take much resources when idle - nothing that would make me feel I should shut it down to save anything. There are also performance plugins that may help ease the idle load even more. tl;dr: I wouldn't worry about it personally, unless you're going to shut the server (machine) down as well.

I looked at both scripts and found them way to complicated for what I am trying to do. So, I ask another question.

I know that I can have a cron job invoke a startup script, but is there a way for another cron job to stop it?

If you don't mind me asking, what plugins can ease the idle load?

This isn't a load issue either. My dad seems to think that my friends are going to hack into it so he wants it off during the night. Trust me, it isn't about the load or performence issues on the machine.

Even if your minecraft server (not the server) is off they can hack you.

I have my own server and I let it stand on all the time :)

Oh I know that. To be honest, my friends are too stupid enough to get on it, and seeing as it is a private server and all. I really just have to do it because its his rule for running it, so whatever.
