2.created bukkit folder. i downloded bukkit 950 and renamed it as craftbukkit.jar, opened it and got all the stuff,,,
    3. i went to test edit, put plant text and put in the code for start command. saved it as start command then put it in my bukkit folder. went on terminal typed in chmod a+x then put in start command..
    4. in server properties i did everything like put my ip and such..

You're not supposed to put your IP in the server properties. Leave it blank. And make sure anyone who joins is using your external IP.

Did you write in the server port tho? I think you need to do that.

This happened to me as well, just yesterday. Suddenly, it's acting like my ports aren't forwarded at all. I know they're forwarded correctly, 'cause my server's been up for months, and people have been able to join just fine, but yesterday it just quit.
To elaborate, I can't connect to my server via the external (but forwarded) IP, or the domain name that's been DNS forwarded to that IP. I can connect with the server's localhost ID, but that means it's blocked to anyone outside my local area network. The server runs fine when I connect with localhost, so it's not a plugin or anything, but like something's wrong with the router. Server's running Ubuntu Server 10.10, and the router's an apple AirPort Extreme, run through a cable internet connection. Been at it for a few hours, and I still have no idea what's up.
