    Staff Update - July 1, 2013:
This thread is not from 2013. This thread is about the 2011, BETA version of Minecraft 1.6. There is no ETA for the 2013 Minecraft 1.6 update, as always. Please do not ask staff about when an update will happen, as they have no estimate for you. Again, this thread is not relevant to today's update.

    Update 2 - June 23, 2011 at 9:12PM EST:
    New Recommended Build #928.

This Recommended Build addresses a few API issues and provides Plugin Developers with more events to work with, allowing more awesome plugins to be made. Unfortunately, this new RB WILL break some plugins (mostly plugins that deal with controlling a player's movement - details can be found near the end of this announcement). As always, please be sure to backup your server before updating just in case!

See this post for more information.

    Update - May 30th, 2011 at 5:55PM EST:
Since the release of Minecraft 1.6, we've seen quite a few rapid-fire bugfix updates from Mojang addressing issues the community has noticed and reported back on. While we're glad Mojang are on top of things and getting updates out there quickly to improve the community's experience, this does result in extra work on our part since we have to re-do some of the work we've completed for the previous update. As a result, I made the decision to hold off on getting a build out for Minecraft 1.6 until we were able to evaluate the update and decide if that is what we feel we should do or not.

Over the weekend, that is what we have been busy doing. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to handle the situation as much as I would have liked, leading to a lack of communication on our part with you guys, our community. Nevertheless, my team was happily and diligently working on the update and in regular contact with me. Still, I would like to apologise for our lack of communication, I simply was not in a position to do so.

That being said, we have noticed a few issues with the update that we've been able to address, so we are leaning towards bringing out a build for Minecraft 1.6.5. Though this build may not address all the issues we've found, it is still usable and produces a playable server with a decent experience. However, I am not yet sure if this build will qualify for recommendation.

Please bear this in mind when using the build: it is not fully supported (though we welcome detailed, useful bug reports) and not recommended (we can't guarantee stability) to use. There are some Minecraft vanilla issues that Mojang need to address that are beyond the scope of our project to fix and we are still touching things up (like Nether/multiworld support).

If you want to use the build we'll be pushing soon, please backup your server and make sure you understand the risks before doing so. Once again, we cannot guarantee that it won't eat your cake or spawn tiny creeper babies that take over your world.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang released Minecraft 1.6 today (Thursday, May 26, 2011) around 5AM EST and we've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with Minecraft 1.6 out. Since the release, Minecraft has seen quite a few small bugfix updates addressing some unnoticed bugs and we've pretty easily kept up with them. Unfortunately, there appear to be some issues with the update that is making the game unplayable for SMP players, so we've decided to wait for a bugfix update before we recommend any builds.

Will there be a CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6?
Given the reports of showstopping bugs present in 1.6, there's a high chance a new bugfix update for Minecraft will be out tomorrow or even several times this week. As a result, it is unlikely we will be releasing a Recommended Build for 1.6 until we have something stable to work with.

That being said, we recommend everyone stay on 1.5 for a while until the showstopping issues are fixed and we can get a new, stable, compatible build out.

You can already get CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6.4, but it is unsupported and not recommended.

I'll be scouring the internet for further reports on how Minecraft 1.6 is performing, but preliminary research and our own testing has revealed it as unplayable due to chunks sporadically loading or not loading.

The problem with it is, every bug that was fixed in 1.6.4, crashes the server instead of the client now.
Shift-clicking items in a full chest will crash the server, etc etc.
And the 1hit break bug is also still there.

Unfortunately you cannot make something and in the same time being the only one that makes it, and then not getting thous who demands and whine.. the sad thing is thous who actually wait and is patient is more silent then thous who don't which ruins the motivation for the bukkit team to make it.
even if it only the little question when is a ETA for it even that brakes a little. though it doesnt seemce harmfull at all.

i'm glad with 815 and it run my server enough to be played on. thank you Bukkit. (now i would have went and donate but i don't have any money before the Wednesday :()
    All out Nekpek

I don't understand why most of the people here want to install this on their servers. First, this week Notch will release the next update. So, to install this unstable version is nothing more then senseless work. Calm down, play 1.5 (this works ;-)) and enjoy this kind of server-admin-holidays!
Second, inform yourself about the actual bugs in 1.6 and you will see, to play with it is nothing more then a pain in the a**.

Well, I don't know what they did, but 1.6.5 nearly doubled the framerate on my Mac. :)
But you're right. They're producing lots of bugs with every new version. But hey, it's still Beta. We are the testers.

I think that Mojang and the Bukkit- Team should just meet to shorten the time it needs to update bukkit. Hopefully, Mojang releases the Server's source code soon.

  10. WOW now I know why the CB for 1.6.4 is "not recommended".Because this is so buged!(chunks didn't load right and you will fail to the void,a little mountain made of stone and sand grow up near my skyscraper).
    Will you repair it?

    *List is not from me!

    1. This arent really heavy bugs.
    2. The servers with 1.6.5 run stable.

  13. In my opinion, Bukkit is not to be blamed they are doing there best to keep up and provide us with a good product, if you are still impatient, use the test build! If you want a recommended build then be patient and wait for them to release one! The only point I would like to say to the Bukkit team would be that I think we would all appreciate it if you kept us a little more updated via Twitter.
Apart from that, great job guys!

    Hey the list is overimplified.
The bed bug + red nether bug can happen together and lock a user out if he sleeps in the real world while its red sky. had to restore player files from backup so they could log bag in.
Maps on some servers cause complete server halt (CPU goes 100%, never comes out of it and becomes unresponsive).
Id consider the 3rd bullet a magjor bug as it's definatly game breaking and requires server admin intervention.
Shadows not updating is game breaking as well, its not a matter of just trees casting a shadow, if you're digging for example and chop a few blocks, it is completely black behind it even if a torch is next door. This makes mining near impossible. For a game about mining - not being able to see doing the most common task in the game one may argue it's game breaking as well.
Dev's are going to wait for 1.6.7 coming out this week and deal with bukkit then - assuming its not a botched build like 1.6 originally ;) . They're looking into the current bugs as well, many of which will hopefully be ironed out with 1.6.7.
I think bukkit dev's are doing a great job and it's honestly just a waiting game from notch.
I think right now the onus is on Marcus to deal with releases a bit differently given the # of users participating in the Beta.
    A) bit more internal testing before a beta relase is out.
    B) give bukkit and other major customization people a day head start, since the vast majority of servers are not running pure vanilla servers.
    C) appreciate that this is not a alpha testing and put more weight on pleasing the "beta" community. Many of these people play because they enjoy the game - even though they signed up for a beta :) This can only help the future of the product.

ikr! I just dont get why people cant just wait. they should know by now that notch tests the update with 4 simple steps...
    1)start game
    2)break block
    3)close game
    4)get coffee
and that's notches testing process right there. complex ehh?

1.6.6 looks strongly like being here tomorrow. Notch has fixed the bed bugs and said most of the programming would be done tomorrow.

But trust me here. We will be waiting in a few days for a 1.6.7 unless notch tests this one properly.

well.. let them learn... I wonder why the bukkit team should invest time because your players are....

    pick a word here...

    there is a good slogan..

a problem on your side doesn't mean there is a problem on my side.

We are still on old code... I have a bukkit of the minecraft client for people who upgraded available.. but nobody did update this time..

be prepared and learn.. if everybody updated... stop your server and go vanilla.. or let them roll back.. as somebody of you STILL has a working copy it should be easy or?

and remind people that there is a reason mojang pushed out a client update which gave us a new client frontend which ASKS us to update..

oh. BTW: the bukkit team did a very good job as posting WAY in advance that you SHOULDN'T update in every forums post..

so for all of the server admins updating... bad luck... for all the players who can't read.. start reading.. and for both of those... stop complaining or asking for new versions.

sorry for the harsh words but some people don't just get political correct wording as it seem..
