So I use multiverse right now, because I have always used multiverse and it works very well. I also have multiverse netherportals.

I thought it gave me the option in the portal search to change it from 128 to another number, but when I change that number let's say to 1 it seems to just ignore it. I don't want my players to be forced to keep their nether portals 1024 blocks apart just so they don't end up teleporting into somebody elses house when they come back.

Does anybody know how to do this?

Does the number revert in the configuration file?

It does not, it stays the same but it doesn't seem to affect anything when changed.

What if you tried a higher number than 1? What about 4/8/16/32/ect.?

Portal Search Radius set to 128(default value):
Alright. So I created portal A in the overworld and went into the nether, which automatically created portal A.
4 blocks away from portal A I created Portal B which teleported me to portal A in the overworld.
Going back into the nether I walked 129 blocks away just for good measure and created portal C. Portal C made a new portal in the overworld. Which means this was a success.

Portal Search Radius set to 64(half default value):
Made portal A in overworld, created portal a in nether.
I walked 65 blocks away from the nether portal and created portal B, which did then create a new portal on the overworld.

Portal Search Radius set to 32(1/4 default value):
Made portal A in overworld, created portal a in nether.
I walked 33 blocks away from the nether portal and created portal B, which did then create a new portal on the overworld.

Portal Search Radius set to 16(1/8 default value):
Made portal A in overworld, created portal a in nether.
I walked 17 blocks away from the nether portal and created portal B, which did then create a new portal on the overworld.

Portal Search Radius set to 8(1/16 default value):
Made portal A in overworld, created portal a in nether.
I walked 9 blocks away from the nether portal and created portal B, which then connected to portal a in the overworld.
So I walked another block away destroying the old portal and creating a new one until it did not connect to portal a on the overworld. This distance ended up being 16 blocks away.

As a result it looks like the smallest value you can set the portal search radius to is 16. Which is equivalent to 16 nether blocks, which is 128 overworld blocks. So all overworld nether portals will have to be at least 128 blocks away from each other to create their own portal, and nether portals within the nether must be at least 16 blocks away from each other.

So now I have answered my own original question and I hope this helps somebody else out there as well. It does make me wonder though, does anybody have any idea why the minimum value is 16? I could understand if it was 8 because of the way data works, but 16 to me is weird.
