Hey there! Well, lets start off. I had received a new modem a few months back, since then I have had getting some troubles port forwarding to setup a small server for me and a few friends. When I type out the internal ip address (to port forward it), It tells me "Invalid ip address". This is the IPv4 address I found in cmd by typing "ipconfig". Could anyone tell me why this happens? I have been trying to found out for a few hours now and it is kind of getting on my nerves.

    Thanks for reading

If you are using files that were created long ago, then the modem got changed .. chances are that the IPV4 of your LAN has changed, and if you had a server.properties file with the 192.168.x.x address listed in the file, yet your actual lan ipv4 address for that server is different, that will be one key issue.

What are you referring to when saying "When i type out the internal ip (to port forward to)"; to what are you referring when 'typing this' - are you talking about typing that ip into your client, or are you talking about the actual gateway/router configuration for port-forwarding, your router is saying "you typed 192.168.1.12 but I say that ipv4 is invalid!" errors...

Or are you trying to configure the gateway address instead of your lan address? The gateway will be 192.168.x.1 , this is the router /modem unit. Trying to specify it as a port-forward target will fail as invalid.

As well, there may be a subtle change - your old modem may have been 192.168.1.x networked, the new one may be 192.168.0.x or 192.168.10.x networked and if you're just copying a setting from something you had before and not noticing that the 3rd unit changed even though the 4th set of numbers is the same (by coincedence), you get problems.

The ipv4 to hand out to your outside friends will not be an ip starting with 192.168.x.x , you get the external ip as Thepom360 links, that is the ip to give the outsiders, once you have configured the gateway to forward its traffic to your phyisical computer that the server is on.
