    TeslaCoil - Tesla Coil mob control:
    Version: v2.6.2

    Usage: the player must construct a tower of no less than 3 iron(configurable) blocks, and connect this directly to a redstone current. While the current is active, all mobs within a radius proportionate to the height of the coil (3 blocks high = 3 block radius), above or below ground, will be fried. The towers ping every second, so mobs chasing you will quickly regret it

    Moved to BukkitDev: http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/teslacoil

    anyway it could not be a *.config file? I've noticed a few server hosting sites won't allow you to upload or run *.config files.

    the only thing i can say about those hosts is contact them about the issue since multiple plugins use .config if i am correct but i think he can change it ofc

    What I would like to see is two different things.

    Enter names of players that it will/won't affect (aka security system)
    Better Mob selection, so you can choose to kill what you want, instead of everything but pigs.

    Other then that, excellent mod, my players love it.

    Kinda planned on contacting our hosts about getting it uploaded, but I've just noticed most mods using generally host friendly file formats.

    But I can't wait to get this working on our server it sounds excellent and can be a good replacement for fences even!

    Hmm we use a lot of Iron in our world and a LOT of redstone. Suddenly we have lots of TeslaCoils around us ;P

    It would be cool to implement something to restrict this a bit. Maybe a sign with "TeslaCoil" below the lowest IronBlock to Activate the effect? =)

    Edit: Another thing we just realized (thank you BigBrother for rollbacking *g*) is that this lightning actually burn wood, wool and other flammable materials. In other words. The protective TeslaCoils just burned down our main village xD It would be great if they didnt do that ;)

    u can change the block id u know like to redstone ore or sumthing

    True, but still there are probably coincidences were we get teslaCoils without actually wanting them. On our server pretty much every Block is used in creative ways and lots of redstone runs around =)

    I dont ask to make this the default option, but maybe toggleable setting :)

    Version 1.4, added a command to reload the configuration (/teslareload) and the ability to choose what mobs are struck by the lightning. Permissions up next.

    I've got a electric fence set up and noticed that none of the monsters seem to drop any loot. Is this like normal lighting?

    Normal lightning, assuming it doesn't strike the same place twice, would cause the mob to burn and thus create a drop. The lightning generated by the coil repeatedly barrages the mob, usually destroying the drop after the mob is dead.

    I see, thanks for the info. The monsters usually don't have time to run away, so it doesn't look like anyone is getting free drops lol.

    You can modify the delay in seconds (in the configuration, setping=), say every 5 seconds, allowing a mob to burn and possibly die from the fire instead of the lightning.

    Ya, I figured that.
    One of my friends asked if there was a way to nullify the teslacoils if there was a player near the target creature?

    darklust

    Sure :p But wouldn't you be better off staying away from target mobs? The splash radius of a lightning bolt should not be large enough to hit an individual running from a mob.

    well, that's the thing, we just had a new player join and he didn't know about the coils and was fighting a spider. After about 3 or so monsters, he asked why he keeps getting hit by lightning. :D

    Sigh... thank goodness for backups. Everything was going swell in our little world until someone built a teslacoil a little to close to town. All those pretty colored and wooden blocks got all burned up. It was pretty. We just "stood" there yelling at each other. Did I mention it was pretty. :)
    We can't use fire protection since it prevents "purposeful" fire... no-fire option please! it possible

    Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but since I upgraded to 1.4, the towers incincerate everything that comes near them, including players. 1.3.5 was working fine.
    Code:
    #
    #Thu May 12 21:56:27 EDT 2011
    targetmonsters=all
    sandtoglass=true
    vradius=2
    setping=1
    blocktype=42
    teslaradius=8

    Make targetmonsters= more specific; creeper, wolf, animals, skeleton, zombie, spider

    I like the story, but if you want to rollback damage like that, I'd suggest BigBrother. Don't need mysql, just leave the default settings.
    Then if something burns down, use /bb rollback environment h:(hour range) r:(blocks around you)
    Example /bb rollback environment h:1 r:20
    I use this command if a new tesla took out a newly built house. Just stand in the center of the ruins AFTER the fire is out, use the command and POOF! It's back.

    my teslacoil config file:
    #
    #Fri May 13 07:15:28 CEST 2011
    targetmonsters= creeper, wolf, animals, skeleton, zombie, spider

    teslaradius=16

    You have a rather large radius and a vertical radius expanding to the bedrock. I'm thinking that maybe you have a coil somewhere in the server that is zapping so many mobs at once that it's causing EndOfStreams. Try deleting the coils.dat and reentering the server.

    Edit: Your ping delay is 0. That could definitely cause problems.

    could you make so that wood doesn't burn?

    That strange with 1.4 and targetmonsters=all (default)
    i'm killed by my tesla lol
    Thanks to Santoglass=false fix :)

    I have many lag with this version, and many more GC messages in console
    (perhaps 26 wolfs from player ?)

    love it, though i got struck with it so i used flasebook ic to toggle it on and off,

    can you add the ability to set what it targets as a sign on the bottom block

    also it would be great if you can have certain players excempt (by sign usuage again) so you can use it as protection for certain buildings

    @darklust then how else can i make it target everymob in the vert range?
    btw changed the ping to 1 again and chunks act normal again
    Edit: the full chunk vert as range cuases a small amount of lag

    To all those seeing weird lightning strikes in one spot not hurting anything there, I believe that's due to multiverse. Soon as we enabled a teslacoil, we noticed all worlds received lightning strikes in a single location other than the world the tesla was on (Presumably only the main world works?). Can we get mutliverse support? D:

    darklust

    Multiworlds are supported; if you check the coils.dat file in the TeslaCoil directory, the world is logged along with the coordinates of the coil. When you turn a coil on, it's activated, regardless of the world. Check for conflicting plugins perhaps? ThunderTower looks as if it may conflict.

    After the great fire that destroyed our wool/wood town I was going to restore the world from a back up. Interestingly we forgot to shutdown one of the clients. This morning I started up my client to start the restore work and found the server was REALLY laggy. There were about a billion pig-men in the old destroyed town, and the teslacoil was zapping everything in sight. The strange thing is that it shouldn't have happened based on the config file (see below). My only thought is that a pig was too near a targeted monster and got turned into a pig-man and that pig-man in turn became a target. But lightning doesn't really do much with them. Rinse-repeat. and poof you create a lot of pig-man... Anyone else seen this happen in their worlds?

    try using:
    #
    #Thu May 12 18:38:39 PDT 2011
    targetmonsters= creeper, spider, skeleton, zombie
    sandtoglass=true
    vradius=2
    setping=1
    blocktype=42
    teslaradius=false

    I love this plugin, but it is being abused by admins on my server very quickly... It would be good if you can customize the the settings for each tower with a sign place on it, and add permissions support, because these are being made all over my fucking server, lagging it up, and is looking ugly. I would really love it if you could add the abilty to create a limit on the amount of these towers/ and more config. Also can we have the source? Perhaps then I can add the features. :)

    Thanks,
    Clem
