I think we should have a forum specifically pertaining to Java development that has nothing to do with Bukkit. Right now we have a forum for Bukkit development and alternate server API development but no where to post Java issues that have nothing to do with Minecraft except for maybe the "Chit Chat" forum? Anyway a forum for Java development help and maybe a resources forum is a nice idea in my opinion. Lately I have seen a lot of people watching videos on how to make Bukkit plugins which results in the user skipping Java and jumping directly into the Bukkit API. If we had a resources section we could create basic Java tutorials which would help people learn Java before Bukkit. Instead of being rude and telling people to learn Java before the Bukkit API, we could link them to basic Java tutorials on Bukkit which creates a more comfortable feel then a website they have never been too.

I believe this could really promote Java before Bukkit. I would love to hear how other people feel about this idea.

In the last several years there simply hasn't been enough demand to warrant such a section. What makes you think that demand will increase, especially with decreased forum participation since development stopped?

There are plenty of places better equipped for teaching basic Java skills (Oracle's tutorials, StackOverflow for questions, and even some youtube videos aren't terrible if you're into that sort of thing). The OffTopic subforum has been and continues to be a happy place for the rare non-Minecraft discussion of Java.

mbaxter I agree although new developers will probably be hesitant to post on StackOverflow or other websites that they have never used before but you have a good point.

I actually think Skionz has a point. It would be a great idea to have a Java Development forum. It might not have a lot of traffic, but it will get some, and will increase over time.

I have to agree with mbaxter at this time. There really is no need for a subsection for basic java, or even advanced java, tutorials or help that don't expressly involve the development of a plugin at this time. In the future, maybe.

It is assumed, at this time, that you have the very basics of java knowledge under your belt. I know several people use/have used bukkit as a way to increase their knowledge of java and object oriented programing in general, so it is not something I will discount and just toss to the side. A possible future addition, but not warranted at this time.

    Not a problem.

I do notice I am starting to over use the words "at this time," lately though.

    /me sigh

I'll just chime in on this too: mbaxter is correct, there are much better places for Java dev discussion, even Minecraft related.
